Anything Radioactive Topic

Hawaii have started testing their nuclear attack sirens for the first time since the end of the cold war.

To remind anyone who doesn't know, we scrapped ours decades ago (since we don't need to keep them to warn of tornados or tsunamis or anything like that). I remember there used to be a claxton on top of a pole on the roof of our local post office.

...Not that a warning does any good, of course...

They will send a message to all mobile phones i guess. It would be the cheapest and easiest way to do it.

I wouldn't even bother warning the plebs if I was in charge. What good will it do? Create mass panic for a few minutes (I suspect it would be longer than the old four minutes given that North Korea is a bit further away, maybe as much as fifteen?) All that would do is is cause disruption that gets in the way of the "important people" scrambling to their nunkers. It won't save any lives.

Not to mention that the mobile frequencies would almost certainly be comandeered by the military in such an emergency.

I would send a message to phones saying

"Well shortly a good lot you will have the age old question of. 'Is there an after life' answered, as north Korea has launched nuclear weapons"

Then follow it up with "well, whether said nuke reaches us is another thing considering it's NK, but whatever pleb, cyas".

Interesting documentary on BBC Four last night about the construction of the new dome over Chernobyl. 'Inside Chernobyl's Mega Tomb' if anyone wants to check it out.
Hadn't realised they now plan to dismantle the reactor. I thought they were simply intending to continue containing it.

I wonder how long its going to be before North Korea has a big nuclear accident.

Found a documentary about the legacy left by the septics in the Marshal Islands, focusing on "The Dome" they covered all the radioactive leftovers with.... and how it's pretty much doomed thanks to rising sea levels.
