The Skyride is definitely going to continue as the best place to view the ride from. Just as long as you get one of the two remaining cars with windows that have avoided the Freddy Kruger treatment.
What's the Freddy Kruger treatment?

Personally, the most disappointing part of this endeavour is that I genuinely don't think it looks good enough to warrant me spending £55 + fuel & board to visit.

I must admit I remember when arial pictures of The Smiler were leaked websites were crashing etc. due to the demand.

Leaked SW8 pictures and nobody seems to care.

Well the drone operator has a good idea of air law. Although he may of been flying it over 'an area outside the control of the pilot'

Unfortunately, there's not much Alton can really do about drones flying over if it follows legal guidelines... the only thing they could do is put a giant opaque dome over the park during the closed season. And I don't see Merlin paying the money to do that.

And that the point. The one drone operator that placed the drone into close proximity to a ride during an fully operational day. Was taken to court over the offence.

This pilot can too since unless he owns Alton Towers, he's in breach of the Air Naigation Order prohibiting flight within 50 meters of private property not owned, operated or under the control of the pilot (30 meters for taking off or landing), he's also in breach of the same Navigation Order that prohibits out of line of sight flight (because to have line of site to that drone, he'd have to be standing on top of the towers or on the grass).

Even if he took off from the public road he's still in breach of the ANO.

When we're banned from flying anywhere that isn't land we own, these guys can look back on these stunts and pat themselves on the back for a job well done, it's no wonder Joe Public think Drone Operators are idiots.

I forgot about the ANO for unaided visual contact with UAV.

Whilst I hate bureaucratic nonsense and stupid rules that say "you can't do this or that" (as a helicopter pilot you learn to hate/ignore rule 5 in the CAA rule book which is very similar) This to me is an exception; I think these drone operators should have some patience and wait for it to open now that we are in closed season. We seem to live in an age where it's all about instant gratification and it'd be so much better if it was actually secret. How do you think those who were waiting for Oblivion survived without knowledge or photos of what was going on.
