What developments will happen after 2018?

I agree totally with your view for 2027

My idea for a new nightlife area
And monorail refurb

Tbh the Idea of a nightlife area isn't a bad idea at all as they continue to develop into a resort and not just a theme park. If they did that I would suggest that they do it in a way that it could be used throughout the year. I would suggest between 20 and 50 shops and restaurants so that it becomes a destination. It needs to have lots of features and great landscaping.

I think that the Rapids has a very long future at the park, but I agree that another water ride is not needed, we simply don't have enough warm days.

My 10 year plan would be something like this (tried to keep it realistic):

2018:
Wicker Man
(Cloud Cuckoo Land closes)

2019:
Cloud Cuckoo Land Re-theme
Enchanted Village Barrel accommodation

2020:
CBeebies Land flat ride
(The Blade closes)

2021:
X-Sector flat ride

2022:
SW9 Forbidden Valley RMC launched T-Rex
New Hotel

2023:
Re-themed CCL new family coaster
(Nemesis Sub-Terra closes)

2024:
Nemesis Sub-Terra IP retheme
Waterpark expansion
Splash Landings Hotel expansion
(Mr Bloom's Allotment closes)
(Rita closes)

2025:
CBeebies Land new experience

2026:
SW10 Dark Forest B&M 4D coaster
Car Park expansion to compensate for partial closure of Air car park
(Duel closes)

2027:
Duel retheme & upgrade
Nightlife area (Air car park)
Nightlife area hotel
Monorail overhaul

Those are all really good ideas, it is just a pity that they cost far more than Merlin will be prepared to spend on Alton Towers over the next 10 years!

I am very wary of developments after SW8, you can be sure that there is less cash available and chances are in another few years Merlin will have cut theme park CAPEX even more.

:)

Again a new indoor dark ride would be a far better addition than a water ride. Something that can be used all year round rather than only really popular for 3 months. Something indoors would also help for the Christmas line up. Getting the Cloud Cuckoo Land Theatre back to a theatre or at least a new 4D show would also help for the Christmas openings, similarly with Wobble World or some other indoor play.

I’d rather not see a water ride at Towers the weather isn’t good enough in the U.K. and I’d rather see something that people will ride all year rather than for a few mounts.

The log flume was always popular, so I don't think that's really true. As long as it's not a splash battle or tidal wave type soaking Brits are generally more than happy to be splashed a bit on cold days. I think a log flume is an absolute staple at any theme park, and would love to see a modern take on one arrive in the near future.

The Flume was popular from June to August and that's about it. Walk on on very busy days during parts of the season.

The thing is they've already had a log flume there so I don't see Merlin thinking that another log flume is a good investment when they could build an attraction that's appealing all year round and will get queues.

2027:
Duel retheme & upgrade
Nightlife area (Air car park)
Nightlife area hotel
Monorail overhaul

I cannot see Duel surviving in its current form for another 10 years! It would at least have closed entirely long before that, if it doesn't get re-themed. The park is begging for dark/indoor rides, having closed the majority of them and Duel being in such an awful state. With a brand new coaster this year, the attention of the park needs to head that way (and entirely away from CBeebies!)

I guess it depends if Duel gets it's planned TLC this closed season.

Duel won't last another 10 years even with TLC but Gloomy Wood should be targeted for development alongside dark forest in the future as well as the continued upkeep of the rest of the park. Also depending on SW8 RMT may also need to go if SW8 is a hit with families and that would leave two dead areas in the same area of the park so guest flow would seriously be impacted and the skyride would see a surge in demand due to the path due to FV having no attractions along the way. In conclusion develop dark forest as well as Gloomy Wood and Katanga canyon if required to maintain good guest flow.

That makes sense but I can’t see them removing RMT in the near future at all. It’s a park classic that families love and it enhances the rapids a lot. However, the development of gloomy wood makes sense either with the addition of some flats or just something to occupy the area.

Still think SW8 should have been part of Gloomy Wood. Mutiny Bay didn’t need anything new. SW8 paired with a redevelopment of Duel later on would have worked well, for Gloomy Wood.

I disagree. If SW8 had been in Gloomy Wood, it wouldn't have been 'in' Gloomy Wood at all, it'd have physically been in Katanga/Mutiny Bay. Gloomy Wood works well as a well contained area with Duel. Haunted Hollow doesn't detract from that notion, either.

That’s a lot of shops!! I think they need to look at the Center Parcs model with an added bar or two - perfect

Well water rides are always a great addition, and giant water ride projects I think will definitely pull in the guests. Abc rides offer a great water ride selection. There are tiny little mini flumes that they do that look ever so good and would fit well in to extensive theming structures. A big splash wouldn't be too bad. just have the station as a ruin that looks as if it's from the Towers. As told by my profile, SF10 is a ride I really like, and it's actually an abc rides Grand Flume. These are awesome because you can have the track lifting/launchpad, backwards drops, and it's 2 to a row so you fit more than in a log flume. I've already gone on long tangents describing how I'd do themed areas at AT so I won't do that this time, and I'm still learning the ropes on using Planet Coaster, but if I manage to get somewhere and have a suggestion to you guys, I'll try and put it up as well

Aside from a new flume ride, I think AT should invest in some flat thrill rides. As the coasters have got better and better, the thrill rides have become increasingly lacking. It's a shame Ripsaw has gone. That really only now leaves Enterprise, unless they reopen Nemesis Sub-Terra.
DMP are far better for Non-coaster thrill rides than AT. Would quite like to see AT follow their example and introduce several similar rides - inverted frisbee, enclosed waltzer, a proper drop ride, a Pandemonium type ride etc etc.
