Sure someone's probably suggested it already but it'd be cool if the queue line had hidden messages written all around it in runes, similar to the "Indiana Jones adventure" ride at Disneyland. They could even hand out cards with the runes and their alphabetical equivalents just like Disneyland did ; maybe it'd make queuing a little bit less boring. I'm almost certain this is something Towers have thought about doing anyways.

Not a bad idea at all although I feel like they'd rather use an app these days than paper copies to avoid litter and wasting money printing them

To be fair an app makes far more sense. Since they made apps for Smiler and Galactica I can sorta imagine that this would be the one they'll bring out for SW8.

Implying there is a gimmick, just not track and train? Is anyone going to spill the beans or are we going to keep playing 20 questions? :p

Sorry, I did not mean to imply that at all, I have no idea if there is a gimmick or not elsewhere in this attraction, I just know that this is a bog standard rollercoaster!

On a side note, I'm surprised at the sudden influx of aerial photos. Now all we need is an aerial testing video. Have you got any drones handy from Smiler, TowersTimes? Although soon, Alton Towers will probably be like this to anyone who dares fly a helicopter or drone over the park

That would be illegal to fly a drone over for so many reaaons unless permission was given and you were insight of it to name but a few.

The previous flight video on YouTube had a comment by the uploader stating it wasn't illegal as it was high enough and not an occupied area. But it was still outside the line of sight distance.

This pilot can too since unless he owns Alton Towers, he's in breach of the Air Naigation Order prohibiting flight within 50 meters of private property not owned, operated or under the control of the pilot (30 meters for taking off or landing), he's also in breach of the same Navigation Order that prohibits out of line of sight flight (because to have line of site to that drone, he'd have to be standing on top of the towers or on the grass).

Even if he took off from the public road he's still in breach of the ANO.

When we're banned from flying anywhere that isn't land we own, these guys can look back on these stunts and pat themselves on the back for a job well done, it's no wonder Joe Public think Drone Operators are idiots.
Well done this guy should be made an example of. Those who spend 1000's on going through training and learning the rules and sticking to them are made to look bad. Id like to see him recieve a fine.

Well I don't there will be a forward and backward facing train just to look at the statue thing, as the train travels through it both directions...

At the end of the day, this is the world's wickerman themed coaster. And as vague as that is, we all know that's more than enough for Merlin.

Is it just me or does Alton seem to be hiring for more then just cbeebies actors? Could there be some sort of fancy show?

Going OT briefly till we get our own thread but yes I agree, they should be fined, but it shouldn't also mean draconian laws are bought in because of a simple few people ignoring regulations, there are thousands who have insurance, licenses and the common sense to know where and when to fly, they've banned all flying now on Dartmoor which was an ideal place to go because of one persons actions that spanned a 10 minute window, and I'm sure as soon as someone in power in Canada digs themselves out of the snow and see's rotor riots bridge diving stunts they'll be blanket bans there too. I've also been approached more than once flying in our local wasteland, which is miles from anywhere, and been asked to stop in case I damage something, I usually just flash my BMFA id and tell the to read the bit on the back about insurance, they go away happy, but not everybody is like that.

I just wish these guys would use a little common sense, fine fly your drone over a theme park if you want (does nobody ever think I've not been tempted, especially with Chessington so close?) but if you do, don't stick it on YouTube for the CAA and APA to see.

Re: hiring, I've no doubt there will be actors in this, Merlin's flavour of the month atm is actor or staff heavy attractions, it seems they don't care for how the resort will continue the standards once they take over running from MMM 3 years down the line.

Which makes the drone proposals pointless because they're not retrospective, meaning the thousands that already own a DJI, won't need to register or sit a test to fly.

Just one final point if I may - actually this is incorrect. With DJI their drones have geomapping software installed. With mine, I cannot fly it near an airport, or military base, or any other zone which is marked as no fly on the software which is used to fly the drone. Not that I would want to, but its actually impossible to do it (unless you hack the software of course). I believe proposals are coming in to place where theme parks and other areas of large public gatherings will also be added to maps as no fly zones.

So for the more expensive drones, its not so much of a worry - its the cheaper ones without this technology that are the concern.

Anyway, yes, back to SW8.

Speaking of drones, it wouldn't surprise me if someone bought a bunch of these, and set them loose in Duel.
I'm sure big Clive could do worse.

Are we just expecting the flame effects or are then some other visual special effect?
