Application Period is Over For Beta Testing Frontiers Theme Park Game

Re: Frontier wants Beta Testers for their new Theme Park game

I'd like to hope Atari will publish it purely for the name, but as they're a bloody useless company I'd rather it was just called something new - but spiritually remained close to the series.

I signed up for the beta (the number of sign ups between checking it out this morning and doing it this evening has skyrocketed!) and I hope I get in!

Re: Frontier wants Beta Testers for their new Theme Park game

maybe soon we will be saying rcb

Re: Frontier wants Beta Testers for their new Theme Park game

Rollercoaster Tycoon is a kind of stupid name if you think about it, like Microsoft. It's just that we've all got used to it. It makes it sound like Mall Tycoon or those other 99p games you see around. :p

What the hell, signed up for the beta. :)

Re: Frontier wants Beta Testers for their new Theme Park game

The thing is, I'm pretty sure that Rollercoaster Tycoon was the first of the Tycoons which demonstrates how powerful the brand is. Everyone wants to be associated with the franchise.

Re: Frontier wants Beta Testers for their new Theme Park game

I've applied too. :)

From the sounds of it the people who have applied will get to know in just 3-4 weeks if they get a go on the Beta. The IOS Beta is limited but he said they hope to give everyone who applied a version of the PC Beta. :)

Re: Frontier wants Beta Testers for their new Theme Park game

This game will not be using the roller coaster tycoon name, this has been confirmed by frontier in the past. Unless there has been a big u turn. At this stage we don't even know if it's a full theme park game like rct or some new game just about building roller coasters.

Re: Frontier wants Beta Testers for their new Theme Park game

I've also applied for the test. Whatever it is it sounds very exciting! I hope it is a full theme park game like RCT and not just coasters but I'll take anything considering how long RCT has been out for now and the fact that No Limits is hard to use unless you really get into it!

:)

Re: Frontier wants Beta Testers for their new Theme Park game

I've just had a pop over to the thread to see if anything new has cropped up, and the OP has a slight edit:

Michael Brooks said:
PLEASE NOTE: This is not a beta for RCT4!

Also, the list of names is also continuously growing. August 31st is the deadline date for applications, so if you haven't applied yet and you wish to, make sure you get it done sooner rather than later. We've also been promised to have some screenshots before the beta is released.

Re: Frontier wants Beta Testers for their new Theme Park game

Hmm, may have a few questions to ask my friend at Frontier, see what he/she can divulge...

To those who've applied thus far, I hope you get lucky! :)

EDIT: I'm not claiming to know anything, apologies if it sounds like i'm withholding info or being infolitist.

Re: Frontier wants Beta Testers for their new Theme Park game

Let's wait and see and then *fingers crossed* watch as only those on here get to be beta testers

Re: Frontier wants Beta Testers for their new Theme Park game

The application period for Beta testing is over.

Not long until we find out who the testers will be. :)

And he's promised us screenshots a day or two before the beata comes out. :)

I think this is the game Frontier were talking about.

I feel sorry for those who were expecting RCT4 :(

I wasn't expecting the next RCT 4, but I think I've just cried a little inside. That looks nearly as terrible as Thrillville!

It's worth noting that is a trailer for the Tablet version.

But this is very disappointing news. I wasn't expecting the next RCT style game but I was hoping for a lot more than a cartoony, easy to use but cut down version of NoLimits. I hoped they were aiming for something where you would actually have Roller Coasters that are part of a larger park, the type of game we haven't seen since RCT3 came out 7-8 years ago :'(

Edit: Apparently you unlock Wooden Roller coasters later in the game which are much harder to build because on high force turns they will fly off the track...

 This really isn't helping the stereotyping of wooden rides being unsafe. Not to mention that it throws away any notion of realism being part of this game.

Second Edit:
Well there is still a bit of hope for the PC version:

The art style will be kept for the PC version, but it's worth remembering that we intend to develop the game (or family of games) further. And we do want your guys involvement in that.

...

I'm hoping you're going to develop a RCT-like game with us!

So they do have plans to expand this into a full park building game with the roller coaster mechanics that they've already unveiled but it sounds like a very long term goal and one we actually have to help them with.

I still hope to be part of the Beta for this new track building system but besides that I think I'll stick with RCT3.

There needs to be a decent themepark game. Bullfrog made some dodgy looking games way back, but maybe EA, the current owner of Bullfrog could be persuaded that a themepark simulation game is needed and there is a good market for it.

Screw everything about this, except Gravity Max making an appearance.

I don't know why anyone would want to help them further this non-game based on that trailer.

Why does the guy at 0:32 look like he has a potato for a head? Worth noting.

Very disapointed. :(

I was hoping for a serious game that was complex and quite hard to master, but what we've got there is a game aimed at casual gamers. People who probably have never played RCT3 and have not even heard of No Limits. I bet the computer version is like that as well. :(
