Blackpool Pleasure Beach: Icon - 2018 Mack Double Launch Coaster

I think it;s safe to say they'll definitely do something else to the station; if not I'll be riding blindfolded.

Do you think they've painted it grey because they'll get a few years extra before having to repaint it thanks to it being so close to the metal colour presumably?

It was never going to be a highly themed station anyway. It's an amusement park. Practicality and low maintenance will definitely be in their thoughts regarding the station.

The ride looks amazing though. Looking forward to visiting lots this year.

Pleasure beach refer to themselves as “UK’s most famous theme park”

Indeed. I'm not expecting or wanting it to be themed, however I am hoping it might look pretty cool! At the moment it looks awful.

:)

I’m not with the argument that BPB is an amusement park, so effectively it doesn’t matter what the station looks like. It does. And the other stations on park prove it.

In fact BPB’s stations are generally excellent. They may not all be themed but they have an architectural flair to them. The likes of PMBO, Grand National, Valhalla, Big Dipper and even Steeplechase all have architectural merit.

Thus far Icon’s station has all the architectural flair of a DHL warehouse.

Pleasure beach have some bloody good ride stations, avalanche and grand national spring to mind. Big ones station although a product of time was very well thought out.

I trust there will be more to icon and if not then that’s a real shame.

No they don’t, they refer to themselves as one of the UK’s most ride intensive amusement parks...

BIt of brand confusion then, the website page title calls it “Pleasure Beach Theme Park l UK’s most famous theme park”

BPB is an amusement park at heart, but seems to be stuck halfway between the two in terms of the way the park operates in modern times - their marketing proves this, they can't decide which they are!

I don't think there is any rule saying amusement parks can't have themed rides, seperated themed areas is when it becomes a themed experience park IMO.

Pleasure Beach have always done something a bit different with their ride stations in the past, it would be a shame if the ride called "Icon" launched out of a tin shed.

That track just looks like somebody based it on a scribble over the park map :). That's the right way for BPB to compete with other parks, by building something that could only ever be at the Pleasure Beach.

Even if you don't ride the thing, it is going to add excitement and momentum around the whole southern end of the park.

I think Icon is shaping up to be superb on so many levels. For a start, it’s using up what has been dead space for years. It will add excitement to other rides you are on, such as Big One, Steeplechase, Grand Prix, Skyforce, Avalanche & Big Dipper. It will look good from Big Blue hotel and will be great to watch just wandering around the park, eating outside BK, etc. The ride itself looks like it will be a huge amount of fun.

Who cares about stats; inversions, speed, height and so on? It just looks like a really fun ride which should rejuvenate the park. And yes, this ride may well have looked silly parked up over concrete in the corner of any other amusement / theme park in its own footprint, but in true BPB style it goes over, under and through existing rides, even through the gap in Big One’s lift hill. I also think it will be awesome to ride at night. Roll on opening week!

I love the place but it's definitely not a theme park. Where are the themes? Where are the distinctive areas? It's the country's biggest amusement park for me and I actually don't have any issue with that as it isn't a bad thing anyway. That's what I love about Blackpool.

Away from Nickelodeon area the rest of the park is a mess in the best possible scense and that's why I love it so much. It's different and has a charm of itself. Old meets new, wood meets steel.

Definitely better with the tagline line "Most intense ride experience / amusement park" for me.
