Ah...snow.
That really could be the turd in the prune jar.

I'm gonna give a BarryZola promise here that it'll be bright and warm on opening day. The weather gods are just making sure all of the bad weather is out of the way next week so there's a clear run for the mid-end of March. It's a Barry guarantee :)

Sorry BarryZola, hate to squeeze one out in your personal prune jar, but Rob the nob just checked the forecast for the next two weeks, which is about as far as you can realistically go.
We have what we have got now for about two weeks, which means it may stay as a big block of high pressure for a month or more...cold and dry usually, but if the blob of pressure shifts, as it will this week...You get loads of snow.
If it does that the night before opening...the park will close on h&s grounds...as has happened early season in the past.

It won't last more than a week and a half, then it will become milder over the next several days resulting in a mixture of cool/warm days in the following weeks. You'll all be amazed how nice the weather is in a couple of weeks, and then you'll know that a BarryZola weather promise is a guarantee :)

Don't believe the scaremongering peeps. It WILL be terrible for the next week or so, but then it'll all be cool and we'll be feeling the warmth on our backs more often than not in the weeks afterwards. This is the last of the crap in the next couple of weeks :)

The high pressure is projected to sit over the uk for 28 to 34 days. It is acted on by the gulf stream, so if the stream moves to it lower position then a low pressure will make it way up the country.

Those fire effects look pretty good, is the inside going to be heated to match the smouldering effect? The presentation overall looks top notch. Layout is still meh, and lack of themeing in the pre-lift and maintenance shed is disappointing.

What sucks about this, for me, is that I think they've managed to turn it round from a lame prospect into a fairly interesting one. But they've also done a bit too much mucking about ( ert, pass exclusions, opening/closing) that I feel obligated to actually take people's advice, and vote with my wallet.

My pass runs out in July, so I'll be enjoying Wicker Man, checking out the the lovely work they seem to have been doing on the Grand Conservatories (and the temple at the end of that terrace) and any other Heritage work. I feel like I've missed something from this closed season? Maybe not. Hopefully there will be some access to the Towers from the very start of this coming season regularly? It took a few complaints last time around to remind the staff that people actually wanted to have a look around and explore.

Sorry mods, pretty quickly went off topic there. Feel free to move or whatever if needed.

Edit - Oh Yeah. My point was, I'll have had a good amount of time by then to decide whether buying a Merlin pass again will be worth it (as they've killed the old Alton Towers annual Pass as we knew it).

I can appreciate that for some people the idea of anything positive about any project that Merlin develop is hard to handle.
Personally I find baseless judgements and constant negativity as unhelpful as the next guy. I didnt follow any discussion on the ride before it had got most the way through construction either (I never do), so I guess I don't know how bad it got, but...

Pleeeease don't conflate baseless cynicism with people's genuinely low expectations, after years of disappointments, rushed & short term projects and non sensical marketing/management, for the sake of a witty post.

Merlin are quite right to be criticised for all the repeat and easily avoidable mistakes that have been made over the years, I don't see anything wrong with that.

Merlin needed to do something extra good to turn people's expectations around, the public's mainly, that was their whole ambition and job with this ride. The fact that the consensus on Wickerman changed ought to be testament to how they appear to have gone the extra mile – so I'm pleased for them.

I'm a vocal critic of the negatives about Merlin, but I'm looking forward to Wickerman because it has a lot of potential. The only disappointment I've had without riding it is the wasted opportunity with the layout, because of what could have been. But I'm sure it can still be really enjoyed for what it is, if it turns out to be good fun.
