The thing is no matter what happens at a theme park you're always going to get people complaining that 'theme parks are unsafe' even though it's statistically more safe than your average day (More likely to die eating, driving or even taking a bath). Theme parks know that these people exist and they know they are not the target audience for theme parks.

Also negative stuff is more spoken about than positive stuff, Facebook comments are no different, They'll make as much difference as some of the more winy users on here.

Yeah don’t look on Altons page as thats either fans of the park or they’ll just delete anything negative.

It was the drone footage which has been shared by a number of newspapers and media outlets.

I don't think they delete many comments, but generally to like the official AT page you are going to like the rides they offer and less likely to be overwhelmingly negative.

The post in question was the video edited by the Daily Mirror and posted onto their facebook page, its got loads of views and comments, most of them are the clueless people who blurt out the ‘track record’ Alton seem to have acquired now and that ‘wood and fire’ dont mix or that you’ll lose a leg on it, some people even think the whole coaster is still and its just painted like wood. Granted, these people would never visit the park anyway but the level of stupidity is just astounding.

It is a well known fact that both The Daily Fail and Facebook comments aren't the brightest of stuff to read.

On social media, on this forum, on news outlet website, in life - there are those that focus on every negative, those that focus on every positive and those that take a judgement from somewhere in the middle. Generally people like to post complaint rather than praise. Its all academic really, IMO three questions are important:

a/ Will the ride be a good experience?
b/ Will the ride bring in more visitors?

My guess is that the answer to both questions will be yes.

c/ Will the new visitors last long term?

That depends on the answer to (a) and whether AT / Merlin pull their fingers out with the rest of the park operation when the numbers come in. I'm erring on a no to this one but really hope to be proved wrong!

Don't tar the old as stupid, not all of us are

Jeeez, Ian, can you please point out in my post where I said the old were stupid????

What I said was that the press outlets which have been slating towers, which, are mostly read by the older age groups (research it if you wish), have attracted the most negative comments about Towers and the new ride. Now many of these people will be the ones who do believe everything the read in the paper. Does that make them stupid? No. Just influenced by what they have read.

Younger people in general tend to resort to online news, social media and so forth. Obviously, you cant put everyone in to the same grouping, there are those who do not fit in to this grouping, infact, its so obvious, does it really warrant replies saying I am being ageist or calling people stupid, when I think its blindingly obvious the point I was trying to make. And for the record, i'm no spring chicken either!

Anyway, dont want to get into a debate about this, its clear I wasnt setting out to be "ageist" as people put it, just saying where I believed the majority of the negative comments to have been coming from compared to the more positive ones. Thats what I thought we were talking about anyway.........

Wasn’t just the Daily Fail, I think the Independent posted it too.

Same thing there as well, old and stupid people! :p

I'm glad IMAscore are doing the Wicker Man soundtrack! I love many of their soundtracks, including Galactica, Mystic Timbers and Derren Brown's Ghost Train! I'm looking forward to hearing the soundtrack on the 18th, and I hope they release a snippet on YouTube, like they did with The Smiler and Galactica.

Sorry if this is off topic, but as we are talking about soundtracks, who did Oblivions?

I mean... You say officially... A news broadcaster (ITV to be specific) has mentioned it is opening on March 17th.

They may have been officially told by the park or... A reporter was asked to make a video about the ride and did this:

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Alton+Towers+Wicker+Man+Opening+Day

Which is generated by someone stating the fact on Wikipedia as an "expected" opening date.

None of Alton Towers' official channels states the fact, so I'll wait till it updated before I believe it. (Even though we all know it was going to open then anyway)

It's hardly a surprise, it was clear from the initial planning application that the aim was to open Wicker Man at the start of the 2018 season (with construction to be completed end December 2017).

:)

Here's the link to the ITV News story.

The video contains a seriously cool soundtrack that I've not heard anywhere else before.

With IMAscore confirming it's involvement with Wicker Man, could this potentially be part of the official soundtrack?
That is impressive, it does sound as though it could mix quite nicely into the Hall of the Mountain King snippet we've heard on previous Wickerman official videos.

I could certainly see this being part of the soundtrack, especially with the heavy emphasis on percussion. I guess we’ll have to wait and see
