For me, even though I prefer the coasters at Towers, the ride line up at Thorpe is more suited to my tastes as I'm a big fan of flat rides. Thorpe is the sort of park I can visit on my own and just spend all day whoring the rides, which I couldn't do at Towers to the same degree.
I do have issues with the park though, in that a fair few of their rides are inferior versions of ones found in other UK parks; Inferno, Samurai, Vortex, Rapids, Detonator and Flying Fish all come to mind, and the less said about Storm Dirge the better. On the plus side Rush is running better than it has is years and seems to be running a slightly longer cycle than towards the start of the season. Quantum seems to have had a lot of work done to it too, and is now running a lot more smoothly (and doesn't feel like it's about to collapse, which is always good...).
I prefer AT as a park (partially for nostalgia reason admittedly) and it can be a more relaxing day if you're in that sort of mood.

I firmly agree on Rush however, had a trip a couple of weeks and ago and was blown away again. Must have had at least 4-5 full swings, and when you get a decent cycle, it really is hard to beat!
I have to say I couldn't have a day whoring the rides at Thorpe though, especially with no single rider queues and I've been bored before even when in a big group! I suppose for me, the re-rideability of a lot of Alton's rides has a part to play.

Merlin seem to be rolling out more new cross-park strategies this year in regards to pricing too, for example the 40% off if you book more than 7 days in advance, 20% 2-7 days, no discount 1 day in advance is now Merlin-wide as well as the classic 2 for 1 offers.

I'm not so sure it is failing with guest numbers quite as miserably as it seems. If it were I'm sure they'd be responding with The Swarm advertising which would be much more in your face than it is, when did you last see a Swarm ad on the TV? I've not seen one for a couple of months.
Also, don't think it's been mentioned hear that Slammer is very much ill, possibly terminally. It is closed for the foreseeable and rumoured (not for the first time, I grant you!) to be beyond repair.

It's now listed as unavailable until further notice on the website. Whatever the problem is it must be fairly major.
In other news: according to the opening times calendar on the website the park is open 10-8 on 4-5th Nov., so it looks like the fireworks event may still be going ahead (though it is still not advertised on the website).

I really hope that Slammer is up and running again soon, as it is one of the only rides at Thorpe Park that I still genuinely become scared of doing and find very intense (which is all part of the fun)!
Every year since around 2007 the queues have been minimal every time I visit, however, on a couple of trips last year and 1 this year, I have seen the queues for Slammer a lot bigger than previously (up to 40 minutes sometimes). I know that's still relatively short, but it's been the biggest I've seen Slammer get since around 2005/2006.
Personally, I hope Slammer stays.

Anyway we went back this May mainly for The Swarm and to my delight Slammer was open. In the end got four rides on it, could of had more as there was absolutely no queue at all. Me too!
Slammer genuinely scares me, not only is it intense, but more about loosing my belongings (like air actually) but by this reason alone must be kept as a valuable resource for 'additional income.' 'Every little helps'

Slammer has been down every time I've been to Thorpe, which is gutting. It's time is limited I think. Spares and repairs must be costing the park a fortune now the type is out of production surely?

It seemed to be closed most of last year. But then it opened this year and as far as im aware has been open all season. Until last week, and its been down since then. It must be something major if the park have updated the website saying its not avalible until futher notice.

Sorry, this is a bit random, but it just came to me.
For the nw ride for next year, could it perhaps utilize the Vengeance system? I don't believe that is going with the Dungeons when they move, I can't see where else Merlin would put it and it would be a cheap new ride for Thorpe.
I don't know if there are existing structures that could house it, or perhaps some shipping containers.

There have been a few rumours this year that vengeance will be heading to Thorpe, and most people seem to suggest the time voyagers building. I still find it odd that towers gets a new 4D cinema, yet Thorpe close their existing one. And if vengeance goes in there then they will rip all the 4D cinema stuff out.

I've always been hit and miss with Slammer being open when I've attended Thorpe.
I enjoy the ride (not as much as Rush but it's one of my favourite flat rides) so if it's open I try to make sure I get at least a couple of goes on it as pretty much the next time I visit Thorpe it's closed.
