Towers Loving Care

The new lighting lets you notice a lot more things but it doesn't look too cartooney and it doesn't illuminate all the stuff you're not meant to see like the botch job on Tomb Blaster.
Excellent to hear this, let's hope it does look good in person and different from the pictures posted. :)

^ I think it has more to do with saving money on operating costs, and not wanting to foot the bill of refurbishing it or replacing it with a new one.

Yet considering it only needed one member of staff its quite an easy win to get another family attraction open. Also the longer it sits rotting the more effort that will be needed to get it up to standard once they do want to open.

Well exactly, I think in their eyes why refurb it for 1/2 years only to then completely retheme it again at a further expense.

So basically, Wickerman, which replaced a ride that closed 2 years ago anyway, is the only addition/reopening of closed rides we'll see this season. This despite a very busy scaredest and improved attendance in general last season.

Anyone else still under the illusion that these cuts where all to do with the crash and that increased attendance will result in improved operational budgets?

I still believe the ride closures were, initially at least, entirely down to the crash. Despite all of Merlin's cuts, they'd never closed multiple rides before 2016, so I think it's too much of a reach to suggest the closures would have happened regardless. Sadly now, they seem to have gotten used to operating a more limited line up and I think it's a thing for the foreseeable future. Whilst there's not much of an excuse to keep so many rides closed three years on from the incident, I'm still not convinced these cuts would have been anywhere near as extreme had the crash not happened in the first place.

I’m sure Merlin will reverse some of the more extreme cuts after the park recovers.

Merlin will not change Matt. It has become very clear the company priorities profits over guest experience. As long as their selected pieces of data show guests are still enjoying their day, to a satisfactory degree, nothing will ever change!

Overall attendance wasn’t much higher and was still way below what Towers got pre-crash. Scarefest was still busy in 2016 so Merlin won’t see the busy 2017 as a sign of full recovery.

That said I really doubt even if Towers get back to 2.5 million that we will see pre-crash operational budgets.
