Wicker Man - General Discussion - Part Two

The advert was okay. It didn't oversell the ride and make it look fake, it just felt a little unfinished and rushed compared to previous adverts. I like the beginning with the logo being revealed through the trees and the people walking up to the structure though, that was very nicely done. Ah well, at least the actual ride is fantastic and the marketing isn't that great as opposed to the exact opposite that we've had with past projects.

Wicker man - watershed moment for the U.K. theme park industry

I expected a thirteen style ride, but I got an excellent re rideable coaster. As an experience definitely the best at alton Towers

Only thing I would say is you can the Wardley bits to the non Wardley ones IMO

I think it is vital that they sell as many of the £55 passes as possible. Hence the in your face nature of the promotion.

This year is about getting guests through the gates.
For our sake, I hope they meet their quota. This season may mark the beginning of a new era for the park. We may even get more face-lifts within the net few years and some much needed flats.

I almost wish there was some way of showing them how well they've done with this coaster whilst punishing them for the rest of the park at the same time.

I suppose it could be argued that, with the way Merlin operate, if guests flood in due to Wicker Man then an otherwise passionate park team would get more funding to operate the park the way we all know they really want to.

But then I'm torn because other than Wicker Man, Merlin don't deserve the money. It was so disappointing to see the way the rest of the park was on Tuesday. It contrasted so much with this new attraction.

That advert works, but it doesn't at the same time. A voice over is desperately needed earlier on and the wicker man logo at the start takes too long to appear. It is just weird, Smiler's adverts works a lot better!

People are overanalysing the advert and looking at it through nostalgic goggles. Go and enjoy the ride (as I have yet to do) and then say how you feel. They are an evolving business and have to do what they have to do to get people through the gates.

I generally believe Merlin wants the parks to be successful

I work in the hospitality industry I have seen 2 chains run by investment arms that put another ‘specialist’ firm in charge to run day to day. All they specialise in is making returns, cut staff, and no shame reduce quality and give the bare minimum and investments are only made and done to the cheapest possible way.

I’d take no baggage holds and add entertainments in park back, makes sense imo

Was on park today, got on the first batch for the pre-show.

The first ride of the day seemed slow and I wasn't that impressed. Got a few walk on rides later on in the day and it seemed a lot faster and better later on in the day. I loved the pre-show, but I wasn't blown away by it. Great themeing and loving the ride music.

Today was a good day to visit.

The advert in some way reminded me of the Nemesis one. Lots of in the hall of the mountain king, plenty of ride footage and a small hint of the “plot” with the kneeling to worship.
Also a lot of the older adverts had a “book now” at the end, the season pass announcement was very similar.
For me personally they are getting close to 90s level of polish.

I couldn’t agree more! This is exactly the vibe I got from it, it took me right back to the Nemesis ad.

Glad I'm not the only one that got Nemesis VIBES from that advert, feels quite similar to the Nemesis advert with lots of (proper) real ride footage (none of the CGI crap like The Smiler advert) and guests walking towards the ride.

Didn't want to say anything in case I got lynched!

I think it's quite a great advert. For once it's realistic and shows the ride for what it is, doesn't make it out to be something its not.

But still, not the best advert ever, I still love the Oblivion advert and Air TV campaign more.

@James I loved Air’s campaign too mainly because it’s one of the last ones to build something viral on TV with the teaser prepare for air adverts first. Nowadays all the teaser stuff only goes on YouTube and Facebook.
