2018: Park Operations & Ride Availability

It's funny when I think of Theme Parks (and "Magic") I like to imagine busy bees coming in of a night shift tidying up and getting things ready. Rides being cleaned and prepped in first light ready for the busy day ahead. I know it's not really like that (maybe at Disney?) But with towers of late it feels like people rock up half an hour before ride opening and start getting things ready.

People "rock up" when they're told to sadly.

I read it takes something like 8 man hours to get a large scale coaster open each day. Obviously that is across many people but it just shows you what goes into the whole preparation thing. It's a huge daily task. And Towers now have a lot of large coasters.

Techies at Alton do start early, but then, because of the (stupid) staggered opening policies now, they can start later on those rides opening at 11am.

Alton need to sack off 11am openings. If guest figures are rebounding upwards - which they have over Easter - it's time to open all rides at 10 again ;and ERT at 9am to get guests through WM as early as possible.

With rising guest figures, anything other than earlier ride openings shows that Alton holds guests for contempt.

Well technically that has been the case all season long. It will be interesting to see if this wording change leads to an operational change, I suspect not at the moment but hopefully come the summer there will be changes.

:)

This has been added to the opening times section of the website:

"Arrive early and enjoy more fun! The Monorail opens from 9am with Early Ride Time for selected ticket holders from 9:30am. All other rides and attractions will open from 10am."

How can you enjoy more fun by turning up early when a majority of the thrill rides are closed until after 11am?

The quote of All other rides and attractions will open from 10am is very misleading giving .guest the impression that all rides will be open at 10am, something that people have complained on Facebook about. The wording from means any time after 10am, so they technically can get away with opening the rides as late as they want.

The park can no longer cope with high volumes of guests, this was shown to be the case last year during the Scarefest and Fireworks events. This year, this is going to be worse due to the combination of increase gate numbers due to the wicker man and also the cuts of operations/SRQ around the park.

Like I've said before, they may as well have an advertised timetable of ride/area openings. That way guests can at least plan their day ahead. Sure it would result in some angry enthusiasts and a few disgruntled members of the public, but at least there would be clear opening times advertised, instead of the current ambiguous 'from 10am'.

Operations at the park have been abismol today. Half the park closed midday.. oblivion dispatching every 5 minutes... the list goes on..

Do feel they’ve had a power within the dark Forrest, everything and the sky ride has gone down. It’s honestly super disappointing to see the park is such a state.

5 of the big 7 down plus Battle Galleons has been shut all day on the hottest day of the year so far.

They are getting a battering on Twitter, instead of replying to any unhappy customers they have instead decided to pop up a picture of the Welcom-Inn to say it’s a great place to sit and watch Wickerman go round. So that’s gone down well.

Hot weather will be to blame next.

I got really lucky Tuesday it seems. Ops were great. All the coasters bar Galactica ran like a dream. Rita opened late but had no issues once it did I don't think although I didn't ride.

What the hell is going on?
