2018: Eurosat Can Can Coaster / Madame Freudenreich Curiosités

Don’t be!

That terrifying dinosaur that is right in your face after the backwards part.

It's only a jump scare if you don't know it's there, surely. That dinosaur is always there looking at the car as you turn around!

:)

I forget which side it's on, so I deliberately try to sit away from it and seem to always end up nose to nose with the bloody thing!

This photo from InstantlyInverted on Twitter shows how things are progressing with Eurosat:

Theming of the buildings is coming along and it looks like most of the new track is now in place!

:)

Just seen that Europa are advertising for ride operators for Eurosat – CanCan Coaster, starting July 1st until November 4th, which could suggest that CanCan Coaster could be open at some point within the first few weeks of July, depending on the amount of training, etc. that potential operators might have to undergo. :)

A look at the completed track inside of Eurosat:

Still lots of work to do no doubt, and track for the VR station and/or transfer is still not in place (as of a couple of days ago).

:)

Whilst I love Europa Park and criticising them is tantamount to treason around these parts I am quite surprised at how late in the season this is going to open.

I can’t help but think that if Merlin were still working on their new for 2018 ride at the end of June with no opening date announced there would be uproar. Sure it was advertised as opening ‘summer 2018’ but Europa Park call the March-Nov season ‘summer season’ so it wouldn’t be unreasonable for the average guest to expect it open well before now.

I’m sure it will be a great ride once ready, just a shame for paying guests it’s not ready until so late in the year.

I get what you are saying, however from the outset they have known that this is a complex project with a timescale that was impossible to set. They could have closed Eurosat earlier last season to start work but I suppose they wanted it available until the end of the season.

When we had a tour of the construction site over New Year we were told that the Mack's had set no deadline to the project for completion as it is such a complex project. Taking down the old track and replacing it with new track had to be done in 3 different phases to ensure the structural integrity of the dome. And new track had to be installed extremely precisely; if they were out by a very small margin in one section of the circuit then they would have been out by a much larger (and significant) margin elsewhere.

The main aim has been to get this project done right and well rather than get it done quicky. They won't rush anything and will not open it until everything is as they want it to be. I suspect we are still a fair bit of time away; they will not be able to start testing the new coaster until a lot of the interal theming work that requires scaffolding and platorms is complete.

I agree it's not ideal for the majority of visitors who do not know these details. However this was never going to be a quick closed season job! When the project was first rumoured I assumed Sat would be out of action for a full season.

:)

As Rob says - this is such a bespoke and highly complex project, the opening date is when it is.

First of all, Europa-Park have apparently said in a Swiss newsletter the Eurosat is expected to open in late September.

Secondly, EPFans along with some other fan sites were given a tour of the construction site in mid-June. Work has reportedly progressed well since then with the main track being completed and the dome being fully closed off however here are a few photos:
