PortAventura: General Discussion

They used to really mess up my shoulders badly as well as I'm 6ft 4in tall. However I have discovered a new riding position where I basically push against the restraint to stop it from causing shoulder damage.

Works an absolute treat as well I'm pleased to say :)

I set a new personal one day record yesterday on Furius Baco btw, 60 rides!! lol

Never to be beaten as that really is the absolute limit even for me!! Not saying I won't equal it another time though :p

Wow, that is insane. I reckon 3 rides in a day would be the 'absolute limit' for some people on Furious Backache! I went on it last August for the first time, having not seen any POVs, so being totally unaware of the layout other than what you can see going over the lake, and it was dark so we didn't have a clue what was going on. So other than the launch and the final bit, it was a mystery what was going to happen inbetween. That was about 1030 pm, after a long day and on the way out of the park, as it'd had 80 minute queues all day. Unusually for a coaster, the whole family went on. Wife & kids aged 11 & 8.

A bit crazy having Baco as your first launch coaster at those ages really. They all claimed to like it but it was only myself & the eldest lad who went on it on our next visit a few days later. Only weeks before they would both barely go on anything, then we rode The Ultimate in July after which I told them that they could probably handle any roller coaster afterwards! So within weeks from riding nothing of note, they'd done the roughest coaster in the country, then Shambhala & Furious Baco & eldest lad did Dragon Khan & Red Force too, then returned home on top of the world & did Revolution, Infusion, The Big One & Ice Blast all for the first time. Good progress, now they can't wait for Icon!

I must say that riding Baco late at night for the first time, shooting off into the dark unknown at great speed at the end of a brilliant day, is something I'll never forget. The first ride buzz was such that I didn't really notice any discomfort, but on the second ride my shoulders were hurting. I do love the ride but I'm not sure I could do it repeatedly, however quiet the park was!

We always stay at a resort hotel and have never had any issues taking our own drink and snacks into the park. Of course it could be a very different story for day guests.

Out of interest @Graham73 do the staff let you stay on for rent rides or do they make you join the queue each time? I don't remember it having an SRQ.

On that note RIP the Nemesis Inferno SRQ on off peak days where you could get on pretty much every other train.

You do have to get off after every ride, they are quite strict about.

Those steps back to the ride station are a bigger killer than the ride itself :p

Back in December 2013, I stayed on for multiple re-rides without getting off. This was just about the only time I’ve ever visited the park when quiet so I took full advantage of it because I also very much enjoy Baco, or did back then anyway.

PortAventura is a good park but it’s lost it’s touch for me over the years and I don’t really bother making any effort to go there, Ferrari Land is just not a draw.

I'll be visiting PortAventura in the next few weeks and, for the first time ever, will not have anybody with me to look after bags or the precious yarda de cerveza. Can you leave items on the platforms like you do at ATR, or do they expect you to use lockers? If you have to use the lockers, what's the approx cost and are they spread around the park? :)

Unless it has changed since my last visit in December 2015, you can take bags in to the queue and leave them in baggage holds in the station buildings.

:)

There are lockers that can be used, but my advice would be not to bother as like Rob says they have baggage lockers on the platform that are free to use and fairly secure as they have sliding doors on them for each train on track.

Thank you, it sounds similar to Alton Towers then :) I'm not planning on taking anything valuable so leaving my bag on the platform will be fine

Would a yard of ale fit in a platform locker though.
I got told off at BPB for leaving my pint in the platform lockers on the Big Dippers 90th birthday party...the rides and their queues are not permitted drinking areas apparently...
So your rum and coke in the big one queue was naughty as well Diogo.

For what it’s worth my Haviana flip flops got stolen from the baggage holds on Shambhala :(

My Reef flip flops got stolen from the Water park (Caribe Aquatic Park). They were quiet distinctively coloured and some nugget decided to rob them - they were with my missus flip flops side by side so couldn't of been a mistake. Why would you take someone else's flip flops, especially flips flops, as you wear them bare footed and you could have verrucas or anything. Crazy - had to buy some from the Waterpark shop in the end cos' had no other footwear to walk 15 minutes down the road to the hotel (would of walked bare footed but them trees down that long road drop all sorts of spikey bits and ball things!)

Flip flops at a water park are a given - at a Theme Park no. Thats the only place I wear them anyway and were talking flip flops not Jesus sandals! :p

Depends what you’re doing. I bought flip flops in PA specifically to go on Silver River Flume repeatedly at night so I didn’t have to sit on a bus in wet shoes going back to the apartment. Best £12 I ever spent. Boy do I love that ride.

In an unexpected announcement, PortAventura's general manager has apparently announced that PortAventura Park will be recieving a custom Sesame Street dark ride in 2019. The ride will feature Sesame Street characters, and PA Community has deduced that the ride's building should be located underneath/near Shambhala's ampersand.

I personally reckon that this will be a great addition to PA; the park looks like it needs more indoor attractions! Now I wonder what sort of dark ride it'll be?
