I don't know if it's already been mentioned here (don't think it has), but Shaun tweeted earlier today saying that he has spoken with park management and they have told him filming and on-ride photography is permitted on the Rapids... just as the rides sign and staff had originally said...

Ultimately, it seems this is yet another failure by Alton Towers social media department... it's very clear now that something need to change. The lack of professionalism, knowledge, customer service is very apparent now...

:(

I wouldn't be too surprised if he's making it up at this point

I wouldn't take anything for granted from either side on this matter without general evidence (so a statement in writing from Towers management)...

Problem is when you see loads of posts of a similar ilk on Twitter it feels more like there's some weird petty campaign going on against other enthusiasts...

This doesn't surprise me. I watch a lot of Alton Towers Vlogs, and most of them contain no on ride footage at all, with the exception of the rapids. Was always under the impression it was allowed on the rapids and nowhere else.

Well that solves the answer to the debate.

Good on Shawn,

Tut, tut Alton Towers, I suppose allowing filming on the rapids is better than nothing ;)

Here's Shawn's tweet

So we should see this page updated with an exception for rapids then

CAN I FILM ON THE RIDES USING A GOPRO/OTHER FILMING EQUIPMENT?

Due to the safety of all our guests, we cannot allow anyone to film on our rides and attractions.

No need to really, like Shawn has already pointed out, the board at the entrance of the rapids clearly states that you can take on filming equipment at your own risk implying that you are allowed to film.

The rapids is not the only ride/attraction that you can film on. Maybe the website should state

Well would be best to list the things you can film on to save confusion in future, but anything is better than the current message that bans it on all rides.

What this episode has done is now announce to people who were unaware you can film on the rapids that it is allowed, no doubt we’ll see an increase in people doing it and hopefully there’s no negative outcomes due to it.

'A tale with a TWIST.'

So now the rule is 'you can film on some rides but not others' I guess? Confusing. I still don't blame social media team, even though they do word responses pretty poorly of late, I just blame the lack of any coherent communication or consistency going on.

But really, did he have to escalate it this far? I guess he was making the point back at Towers. Would be pretty petty if he genuinly did care about taking selfies on a rapids that much.

Back to the original poll question and I think we can quiet safely say the following

Q. Do you think the behaviour of some well known enthusiasts is damaging to the parks and guests?

A. No not at all...

... but it appears that with regards to the cuts and their childish social media response, Alton are doing a great job themselves in regards to being damaging to the park and its guests. They certainly haven't done themselves any favours this season.

Any one can take a photo or film you in a public place and the person taking the pic/recording is the copy right owner not you, the person taken the photo has the right to post the image and share the image, you as a person has no right to ask for it to be taken down or to share the pic.

A busker performing on the street on public land has no right to ask for his performance not to be photo, filmed and shared.

The law regarding this are very different on private land.

Any place, even a paid attraction where the public pays to go in is classed as a public place. However because the public have to pay to enter the place, then Towers can ban filming/photography. However, this must be made very clear to the public upon entry to the attraction, not just buried in a minefield of T&C's small print. At the end of the day, there were current staff members in that original photo, one of which has taken the place of Shawn's old job (quiet a high up responsible position from what I understand). So if they aren't fully aware of the rules, then what hope does us Joe public have in knowing the rules.

But then when has Alton ever been clear on anything? Even their website can also be a nightmare to navigate.

Errrr I know we're going OT here, but that is essentially what I was trying to say originally.

So, nine pages to find out what we already knew all along?

Namely, that no ride photography is permitted, and rides will be stopped if someone starts filming, but it never happens on the rapids, People have been vlogging these for years.

I've noticed a lot of this stuff recently on Twitter. It's somewhat childish and has clearly ended in grassing up (even though Towers will no doubt monitor TPW regardless) for personal point scoring...

It's a bit daft really...

By far the most sensible post in this topic.
There seems to be a lot of bitterness at play here, talk about blowing something out of proportion! It's a selfie on a Rapids ride!

Does anyone know where the Alton Towers Social Media team is based? I'd put very good money on it not being in Staffordshire - quite possibly not even in the UK. If the latter, this would explain some of the responses from "Mr Tut-Tut" and the general curt responses / poor English used at times.

It's either going to be magic hq or merlin house.
