Cedar Point: General Discussion

Did enjoy being at the park first thing in the morning when I visited hearing the star spangled banner before the rope drop and quickly moving towards top thrill dragster and Millennium Force. Imagine the crowd surge towards Steel Vengeance must be mad, there was no new rides the year I went (2012).

So, Steel Vengeance is still running only one train. Apparently they have been testing use of the MCBR (which as it stands does not slow the train down at all). Staff have said that this is in preparation for 3 train operation; as if there was a problem with it running on 3 trains it would need to stop on the MCBR.

Of course the other theory is that they will use it to slow the train down in the second half of the ride so that they minimise the chance of future bumps in the station due to the brake run not being long enough.

There was a video of the MCBR in action but I cannot seem to find it.

:)

Yes, hence the fact we know it's running 2 trains! ;)

Today is their CoasterMania event whereby memebers of various official coaster clubs get all sorts of exclusives with rides open for them between 7am and midnight!

:)

How does this work for day guests? Do they just get told "No... you can't go on this from 10 - 12?"

All ERT is either before 10am or after 10pm (outside normal park hours). Rides on ERT for CoasterMania between 9am and 10am are not rides that are available for hotel/platinum pass ERT.

Thanks @Rob! Shawn from TPW is also at Cedar Point today, so I'll be interested to see what he thinks!

Apparently 9 of their 18 coasters are closed according to their queue times! And we moan at Alton...

It hasn't been entirely uncommon for Alton to have five of their ten coasters down at the same time this season.

True but whenever I've checked Cedar Point, at least 4 of their coasters are down, at least Alton's reliability has gotten a lot better!

EDIT: Looks like it's 3 currently, from what I can tell GateKeeper and Iron Dragon haven't opened at all.

I was at Cedar Point last week and managed four goes on Steel Vengeance. Its an amazing ride, possibly one of the best I have been on.

I used to rate Skyrush & El Toro up there but as I’m getting older I am getting more of a wimp and prefer smoother rides. RMCs are so unique, smooth with loads of airtime.

I’ll be there again in a few months and hope to get a few more goes on it much later in the day as the park is open until 11pm

I wouldn't really trust it when it says rides are closed. Gatekeeper is apparently still closed, however I have just looked at their webcams and it is dispatching trains at a pretty good rate!

I'm really excited about visiting CP for the first time in September. We're going off peak so expecting it to be fairly quiet and get plenty of re-rides in.

Of course being our first trip there everything will be new to us. Also as Amazing as SV looks, the fact it's not an original coaster and is in fact a conversion of a classic takes some of the charm away for me for some reason. I'm sure it rides really well and is packed with air time but it's still Mean Streak in some shape or form.

Its just ludicrous how one park has so many coasters that hypers and B&M coasters dont even make the 'must do list' and just make the ''filler rides' list. Crazy.

@Benjsh To confirm... this is your first visit, you never rode Mean Streak but the fact that some of the structure used in SV is from Mean Streak - that takes some charm away from it? Mind. Blown.

Yeah....what's so complicated about that?

I haven't ridden Mean Streak simply due to it being so far away and not an easy place to get to but that doesn't mean I'm not fully aware of it and know all about it.

RMC conversions I'm sure are good rides and I like anyone else would love riding one but I appreciate history and heritage a lot also. What's so difficult to grasp from that?

Probably why I'd probably rate Wild Fire (haven't ridden that yet either) more than SV I think. Its an original ride.

@Benjsh What is complicated to me is that if you're a kid from Columbus and have grown up going to Cedar Point and regularly had your back broken by Mean Streak, you ride Steel Vengeance and compare it to the previous ride and I suspect there is little competition.

If you've never ridden what came before it, surely what came before is irrelevant in your decision as to whether something is fun or not? Is Nickelodeon Streak at the Pleasure Beach less interesting because it uses the lift from the Velvet Coaster?

When you ride Rougarou, do you factor in that it used to be Mantis? No right or wrong - if that's how you compare, fair enough!
