Westworld

Could have sworn I read "brother". :p Either way, that's gotta hurt.

Getting back to Westworld, let's have more speculation on who is or isn't a gonner...
Now that "The Cradle" (which I'm presuming is this show's answer to the Cylon ressurection ship) has been kaboomed, I reckon Clementine is gone for good. They wouldn't have spent so long lingering on her death otherwise.

Maeve, on the other hand, will be repaired. Lee seemed to want to save her when she got shot; "No! She's not like the others!"
William should die, but I can't see it happening just yet.
From a dramatic point of view, neither of their stories are over, and the producers would be mad to kill off two of the primary plot drivers at this stage.

Of course, just because we see someone die, doesn't mean they won't have more screen time in this show. I've well and truely lost track of the time skips now. Not even going to bother trying. I look forward to the time, when the show is over, that someone recuts everything in to a nice sensible, chronological order!

Oh, and the preview at the end of this week's West: Word seems to imply that next week...
... will focus on one of the "Ghost Nation" hosts. Presumably the one that's been harrassing Maeve.
Yay. Even more plotlines, just what we need.

Well I don't know about you lot, but that felt like a 100% filler episode to me. If they are having to insert this kind of padding when it's only series 2, then my fears about directionless writting may yet turn out to be true. :(

It did seem that way didn't it? But there could be good reason for them to give us that guys back story.

I've suddenly had this evil though that William's daughter....

wants to do to daddy what William did to James Delos after he died, i.e. upload his consiousness to a host body then shove him in a lab somewhere to repeat the same day over and over sending him mad, she clearly wants him to suffer, and a quick death is too good for him lol

I enjoyed the episode more than I thought I would. It was certainly a very well produced episode with some stunning cinematography and it did provide some interesting back story.

It was almost like the calm before what is going to be the storm of the final two episodes. And I think what we saw and learnt in this weeks episode is going to be key to how the finale pans out.

:)

I enjoyed it too. I do enjoy the pre park opening stuff. Something very intriguing to it.
This episode questions the fact about how long ago did hosts have some form of memory and how Ford had schemed this chaos from the very beginning... Probably since Arnold popped his clogs.

So how's this for a theory on where things are headed?

Maeve and Mr Facepaint are the the only hosts truely "awake". Dolores and her posse are just following Ford's plotline, and are ultimately doomed.

Bernard is essentially just there for life to shit on him. Nomatter what he does, regardless of which side he is on, or who he helps, fate will screw the poor chap over and he will only know suffering. Because Ford is an asshole.

William will survive to the end, have a big confrontation with Ford and a whole army of hosts, and go down in a hail of lead, just like he deserves. His daughter might be killed before this, spurring him on with yet more revenge.

Pretty much all the human staff are disposable as far as the plot goes, so they can all die with very little consequence to the story.

Maeve will eventually find her "daughter", and settle down post-carnage with Ghost Nation Bloke to raise her in peace. (Bandit boyfriend bloke won't make it). Maybe with Lee as their pet / slave.
Maeve will try to "force" her daughter to "wake up", a bit like Dolores messing with Teddy's code. But it will go wrong and leave her kid as a drooling vegitable. They have no choice but to shut her down. Much sadness. Many tears.

The host's final quest becomes "find a way to reproduce for ourselves"...
.... And I really hope they don't go down this road, but I can see it happening. Then once again, I will be left saying, "Battlestar did it better."

Oh by the way, has anyone seen this before...?

Sounds similar to what I wrote six week ago.

It was established in season one (by something Ford said to Bernard, while talking to Old Bill I think) that the hosts
have since day one constantly evolved to a sentient state without the reveries and the only way they've been keeping it in check was by rolling back their firmware a few revisions each time it happened, and if they really went completely crazy, send them to cold storage.

Arnold was the one who invented the reveries (memory recall) which is how he manipulated Dolores into killing him and that was 3? years before the park opened, Ford kept that code under wraps, so Ghost Nation guy had the reveries update then and then never went back in to be downgraded like the rest of the hosts were, by the time he did, it was 10 years later and the tech didn't bother to roll his firmware back, she just repaired his bullet wound and sent him back out into the park.

Its a bit contradictory but they didn't really establish when Ford changed his mind about the hosts, but it wasn't as early as when Arnold programmed Dolores to kill him, if I had to guess I'd say it was when he discovered what William was doing with James Delos, and because he knew what they were trying wouldn't work, and he knew the reveries was the key to sending the hosts over the edge, he eventually though like most CEO's do before they're ousted by venture capitalists, fuck you all I'm going to break my toys so you can't have them lol.

Well, I WAS going to comment on the latest episode...

... but having been told (by HER, no less!) that my opinion is worthless because I consumed a couple of beers this afternoon, I don't think I will bother.

With one more episode to go. I still have no clue to what’s going on.
I’m even more clueless now than I was at this point in the first series o_O

So much happened in that last episode.

I feel there is a lot of misdirection going on.

Going to be interesting to see how it ends next week.

Yeah it's Inception meets the Matrix.

My prediction:
The hosts storyline will pretty much resolve itself with Clementine and her rouge code killing the majority, Dolores, Ghost Nation guy and Maive will mostly escape.

Emily isn't dead and will catch up to dad at The Forge, kill dad but not before scanning him into the system and leaving him there to rot like William did to James Delos.

Bernard will escape, somehow, probably with the help of Maive and her su privileges.

I hope all the Delos lot end up dead, especially Charlotte, she's got to be one of the worse cast characters in the whole series.

Yep, was a lot longer than I was expecting. Don't forget to watch to the end of the credits :)

All the story lines were answered, but a load of new questions offered. Setting up for season 3 which is great news, and going to be interesting to see the direction it takes.

Would still love someone to cut season 1 and 2 in to the correct order. Their were still bits that I was unsure.

Felt really sorry for Elsie, but was it Hale or Dolores inside Hale at the point she was killed?

Also, I guess the big question, is who has she taken out of the park. Has she taken other Robots or real people, or a mix of both? How does the the scanner not pick of that the Hay at the end is a Robot? Is it that Bernard has built her so she does not set it off? Also, Ashley has given the strongest hint he is loyal to Robert still, as he was hired by him. Could this be a hint that he is also a Robot? Although if his primary drive is to protect the hosts, he did not do a great job.

I think we will also see Mauve brought back, so will be interesting to see which direction her character goes.

The scene after the credits confused me a little. By the way their was sand in the facility, and the number of times he has been brought back, I assume this is a long time in the future? I think in the current time frame he is still Human, but it did not make it very clear either way when Dolores finds him. She does suggest he is challenging his reality, but not sure if that means he is Human at that point.

Dolores if my maths is correct.

Well there's Dolores, Bernard, Halebot and two others if the pearls seen in her bag were the only ones.
Dolores is back in her original body but we don't know who is in Hale, plus she made changes to Bernard that have not been revealed yet.

I think we will also see Mauve brought back, so will be interesting to see which direction her character goes.

Yes anybody not in The Valley Beyond is fair game for returning, anybody who went into the Valley will not (according to show runners) but then they threw us a curveball like that about Hopkins after last season.

My thought is Delos will rebuild the park, or try to. Felix and "seriously what fucking door" will be tasked with rebuilding the hosts, and start with Maive, we also didn't see Sizemore on the beach, so he may not be dead.

The post credit scene is happening decades in the future according to the show runners, MiB seen throughout season 1, 2 and ongoing is human, MiB in post credit scene is human/host hybrid (ala James Delos) and is being tested for fidelity by the hosts.

Emily is dead and the host assessing MiB is only built in her image, it's not her. His pivotal moment is killing his daughter in the paranoid rage, like Delos rejecting Logan, it's his baseline.

Why's? Only Nolan and Joy knows that.

My pet theory is Dolores has killed off humanity and this is Bernard's faction either trying to rebuild humanity (and of course they'd pick the hardest example to bring back first) or they've bought him back because he is the only one capable of killing Dolores.

One thing that did finally occur to me last night was Dolores is the Yule Brenner in this version, only taken 3 years.

HBO have ordered them to cut the cast and budget, so expect a much smaller cast and tighter storyline in season 3.

I've had a good think, and have decided that it's all getting a bit too silly for me.

Or, to paraphrase another well known story about disfunctional theme parks by Michael Crichton;
"Mr Abrams, after careful consideration, I have decided not to endorse your show."

Bump!

Season 3 of Westworld started yesterday, did anyone else watch it? I should probably have reminded myseld of how Season 2 ended as to be honest I had forgotten. And a lot of what happened in the Season 3 premier did seem a little confused. I don't know if that was because it was confusing, or because I had forgotten where we were starting from.

Would be good to hear what other people made of it!
