So the World Cup has been going on for just over a week now - it's about time we had a thread for it!

The standout game so far has undoubtedly been Portugal vs Spain; and the standout player has been Ronaldo. He's shown in the space of a week why he is a better player than Messi who in last night's game was poor.

Speaking of last nights game, Croatia were immense and I must say I rather enjoying seeing the Argentines capitulate!

Who does everyone think is going to win the competition? It's really hard to call this time and I have not been overly impressed with any of the top sides yet.

:)

It's been quite an interesting tournament thus far. Looking forward to Sunday (I'm considering taking a little portable to Alton and will seek to act yobbish).

Money still on Brazil for the win.

Germany on the cusp of going out. I'm guessing the Scandinavian rebuild will be missing some Swedish influence :p...too soon?

I still think France will win it if they find a second gear.

Edit: Nevermind :tearsofjoy: as you were!

Very impressed with Colombia last night, although Poland were poor.

Looking at how things are shaping up, it looks like finishing second in Group G coule be much more favourable than finishing first.

:)

So thanks to the farce that is VAR, Portugal finished second in their group and very nearly got knocked out. What a joke!

:)

So Nearly a second for Iran though, would have love to have seen Ronaldo's face if they lost.
Im thinking Croatia might be the dark horse this year.

So, England lost 1-0 to Belgium yesterday and now face Columbia on Tuesday. At least we've got the *easier* route. :)

Brazil rolling around like a bunch of dogs I see, idiots, don’t deserve to win especially with the little weasel Neymar.

Our team at work exclusively has European nations in the office sweepstakes: Belgium (my team), plus England, Spain, France and Iceland.

It looked dodgy for a while today, but we could still end up with 3 of our teams in the 1/4s
