Wicker Man - General Discussion - Part Two

My sons school doesn't even discipline swearing, hell would freeze over before they disciplined littering at a theme park.

Regarding smoking, tbh I think society has become too sensitive to it in consideration to other things that are perfectly acceptable to do in public, but that's a conversation for another day.
Towers should be watching the queue lines more closely for queue jumpers, smokers, vandalism etc. Sadly with staff cuts I don't think that will happen.

I'm sorry but nobody should be smoking in a tight space like that, it's totally inconsiderate and selfish.

I'm not doubting it's prohibited by towers rules but it isn't technically illegal is it.

And that’s the issue isn’t it? Alton towers is private property so can make their own rules I guess but could they actually fine you or remove you for it? I doubt it unless it’s somewhere in some terms and conditions we unknowingly agree to by purchasing tickets. It’s kind of like a friend smoking in your garden and you not wanting it - not illegal but bloody annoying.

I am a former smoker and at no point would I be that desperate to have to have 2-3 fags in an hour queue line. Standards I guess.

+1. In what world do people deem it acceptable to blow smoke in peoples’ faces at close range, brazenly push their way past people queuing properly, drop litter on the ground and pull foam from audio speakers? What the hell is wrong with people? I know queuing can be frustrating, but that doesn’t make it ok to act like a buffoon and make the queuing experience even worse for others.

In an ideal world every ride would have a staff member watching specifically for these moronic acts, from a high vantage point, with a giant Saturday Night Takeaway style finger ready to lower over the offending miscreants, thus publically shaming the pillocks as they are escorted out of the queue by security to a chorus of boos, and then frog marched out of the park

And get everyone to sing “hit the road, Jack and don’t you come back no more no more”

I think it's in the terms that they can throw you out, but no they cannot fine you.

I'm an ex-smoker and vaper too and I never needed to smoke in the queue either, I used to have a quick fag before entering the queue. This is what I mean by people over reacting, I don't agree with smoking in the queues, that should be common sense, but if you're 50 meters away from someone on the green in front of the Towers, then where is the harm of having a fag?

It always made me laugh when non-smokers would stand near a smoking area and complain, or people would start coughing around someone vaping, I used to ask if people coughed like that in the bath or shower and they'd look at me completely perplexed.

It's a bit ironic people having a fit over someone having a fag in the middle of a field half a k away considering the amount of shit theyll inhale walking across to said person to complain.

Nailed it - it wouldn’t be Britain without people moaning

Interesting. My non smoking friends prefer me to use their garden, rather than have someone "hanging around outside their house, what will the neighbours think?"

I don't understand why people still smoke in 2018 but that's another topic I suppose.......

More importantly, Wicker Man is only on a 30 minute queue at the minute.

This must be a record for the height of the summer holidays in the opening year of a new SW?

Damn and I'm at work!

First two weeks of the summer holidays are never that busy even pre-Smiler crash. Plus they have got the throughput up.

They should bring back the text system like they had at Thorpe Park. You texted a number to report any trouble from Smokers to writing on the queue line posts. You txted what ride you were on and the section number u were in.
Anyway do I think they will theme the areas around the track area where the concrete is just awful to look at were your queuing.

Or ppl could grow some balls and say that’s not acceptable.

That sounds ripe for abuse.

Now that they seem to have fixed the issues with the lapbar recheck faff in the station Wicker Man must be the most efficiently operated ride in the park (when it's not down), it wouldn't surprise me if it's the only major coaster (bar Nemesis if it has a good team running it) that consistently gets over 1000pph through it.

So it's no surprise it has shorter queues than everything else.

The wicker man crew are pretty good. They don't hang around talking like the other crews. The crew on oblivian are pretty good as well.

They have been a bit tardy as of late with Batching.

Then again for minimum wage I wouldn’t run up and down the station like a lunatic checking restraints in this heat either.
