Towers Loving Care

All that ‘good work’ must have taken, oh ya know, at least 5 minutes. I agree, a sorry state of affairs indeed to let something which is so simple to maintain get into the state it was, says a lot about Merlin.

As well as this, the view of the top of the rehydrator from the top of Oblivion is appalling! The Smiler logo is all peeling off and it just in general looks a bit gross

All the buildings in X Sector need replenishing properly and an update, they are good but simply weren't built to last this long. Probably because of Pearson beginning to cut costs during Oblivion's construction? They were getting ready to sell Tussauds at the time.

Thought the Smiler logo on top of Rehydrator was just a big fad when Smiler was new. A tacky Doctor Who style "see, this new thing FITS THE CANON!" approach, when who really cares? And what difference does adding logos make – people are riding Oblivion when they see it, not Smiler. Could have been an Oblivion graphic or just a themed roof, bit of eye candy!

I think it is just in mothball. It is better to have a drinks and snack unit SBNO then being removed as it more likely to reopen.

So no sign of life from TLC social media accounts so far this year. Originally the ‘TLC’ programme was stated as a 3 year project so technically that does mean it is all done now.

Is anyone ‘in the know’ aware of any larger scale maintenance/refurbishment projects that are on the go this year? Or if they have plans to publish any updates via TLC accounts?

Merlin's attitude that the up-keep, presentation and maintenance of their attractions is not on-going and constant is lunacy.

The "TLC projects" that were posted online under that name are not much different to many other touch up projects that happened every other year since the park opened.

Remember when Duel had a (much better) lighting overhaul and restored effects in 2012? That wasn't called TLC. The ride was far better then but still declined within a few years, through people fiddling and lack of proper maintenance.

So there's no real 3 year plan, maybe it was pitched as being a 3 year thing to try convince Merlin to grant the budget for bigger projects (like the Nemesis monster). But the truth is there will always be a need for scenic and effects maintenance, that's the nature of maintenance of anything really.

As much as "The TLC Programme" was hyped, at least the work came from the right intention and showed the difference that trying to go a bit further and spending more makes. Nemesis looks infinitely better than the mouldy blob it was through the 2000s and was done professionally. Duel and Hex are at least marginally improved from the states they were in but Duel needs a lot more work.

Very sad if the park has now been told they won't be getting any money for projects like this anymore.

I was under the impression that the TLC has come to an end last season. I think we be lucky if they just get the jet pressure washer out.
