Channel 4 2018 Alton Towers Documentary

Ah, I see! It was your family's fault, not just Merlin's!

I thought I read you say that you were going for 2 days and they gave you 4 hours! :-(
We were going to go for 2 days, but everyone else in my family was exhausted the next day, so we decided to just go straight home. We're using the day 2 tickets in a week's time! It was only ever intended to break up our journey home from the Lake District!

Channel 4 uploaded the trailer for Thursdays documentary to YouTube, in case anyone hasn't seen it! :)

Looks good! Only 1 day to go; which unfortunately also means only 1 more day until I get my English Literature result...

No, they don't - they have audio of the news reports over still shots of the ride in the opening moments of the doc.

I've written up about the whole thing, it's actually a very nice documentary. Won't say much else here because I can't suss how to use spoiler tags!
Is it full of jeopardy like most documentaries seem to be these days? Eg will they/won't they open on time? Mind you there was real jeopardy of sorts really what with the weather on opening weekend!

So true.

"This visitor is about to try Wickerman for the first time, find out if they enjoyed it after the breeeaak"

"Before the break this visitor was about to try Wickerman for the first time.....they're still queuing, we'll find out at the end of the programme."

"Lets go back to the visitor that was about to try Wickerman for the first time, how was it?

Visitor: "Yeah, ok"

"There we have it, great reception all round."

Nah, not really it's pretty well put together.. If you want a blow by blow account then my preview is here. They did skip over the original opening weekend (which was major jeopardy!!) the ending feels a bit rushed, but it's fairly satisfying.

Nope ... None of that! It's not a Channel 5 doc ;)

The documentary should be a good watch for all, and open the eyes of the GP as to just how much work goes into the day to day running of the park, and how safe the rides are.

So with all this tv hype do you think:

It will have a positive impact on Alton Towers? Show the park in a good way or highlight its outdated, and just a cash cow?

I reckon it'll have a positive impact on Alton, personally.

There's a lot of emphasis on learning from the mistakes of The Smiler accident, the safety and testing of the Wicker Man and the passion of the staff - it's all very positive.

Id be very surprised if the productuon company gave them say on the final film.

Maybe not, but as it's seemingly a documentary about how Alton Towers have been trying to recover from The Smiler incident then I doubt it will be putting the park across as a cash cow. The ideas and content will have been discussed between Alton Towers and the production company, and if Alton Towers did not like their ideas then they would not have allowed for a such a documentary to be made.

They're clearly hoping it will have a postive impact and reassure the public.

:)
