It's nice for a roller coaster to have a back story, but not essential, there are people who enjoy learning the lore of things and if done well it often gives you something to think about or joke about in the queue.

It's inexpensive coming up with a back story in all honesty, but it's a nice touch. Of course it's not needed but it's a good feature to have,

It can also create a focal point to the marketing and ride area, look at Swarm for example, it has a back story and is noticeable if you pay attention but not needed to enjoy the ride. It also meant that all the marketing and theming intertwined and was consistent.

Look at Th13teen on the other hand, it's theme is all over the place and lacks consistency, JW himself said it had no story, and yet there's this key a small child, wraiths and a living forest. The ride is crying out for a justification to all of this! Almost as if it has half a back story that has never been told..

Was there on the 22nd and noticed more faces in the Haunted Hallow and more plasterd on the SW7 fence
there was also alot more digging going on inside the constuction site, nearer to where oblivions exit tunnel is.

And The Sanctuary is definitely linked in to SW7

Is life a burden? Are things getting you down? Lost your Smile? Then check yourself in for a refreshing check up at The Sanctuary. The Ministry of Joy will launch its next revolutionary project in March 2013. After being closed for new patients for almost 50 years The Sanctuary, The Ministry of Joy’s earliest establishment, is now holding important trials searching for ‘Advocates’ for its 2013 project. So please, book your appointment, get yourself comfortable as the Doctor will see you now.

They've been merged because the construction topic was just for construction updates only you couldn't stop discussion occurring anyway.

Effectively the SW7 Mini-site is now the place to see construction updates and everything else goes on here.

Thanks!

The use of the word "next" could both imply that the rest of X-Sector is going to have been a Ministry of Joy project at some point or that the Sanctuary is their only previous project.

Oh Alton, why so vague?

I think the MoJ will end up being revealed as the power behind X-Sector, with Oblivion, Enterprise and Submission all being previous experiments.

Totally agree Dave

Oblivion - Experiment into fear and vertigo
Enterprise - Centrifuge experiment into positive G forces
Submission - Experiment into easiest way to remove loose coins and mobile phones from pockets
SW7 - Experiment into disorientation and insanity

Depressing when that's all that can be said about it :p

Interesting new video released by Tower - Alton Towers Resort 2012 Roundup:

Interesting because it appears to include a number of frames showing the Ministry of Joy logo; just a couple of frames long each, in a subliminal manor...

Im sure that will get a few people replaying the video and thinking what was that and get them wondering!

I'm kind of hopping this is the Logo for SW7 because it feels (to me anyway) quite complimentary to Oblivion. It's a simple design with two focal points that like the two on Oblivions logo could be based on the rides central feature. The yellow and white eyes above remind me very much of the rides duelling nature.

It's certainly injected a bit of excitement back into the project.

I was away when it came out and reading back there seems to have been a presumption it is Sanctuary based, but why wouldn't this smiley face thing be for SW7? Have I missed something or do we know it is at least initially for the maze?

If it is for SW7 I wonder how much it gives away, if it is in any way representative of the ride itself or just the theme. There is definitely a suggestion of movement in those eyes, they swirl away into infinity. That could be indicative of a 'hypnotism' or disorientation theme, but if that is also continued into the ride hardware what could it be? What element or 'worlds first' is the marketing playing towards?

It screams to me inversions. We know there are a substantial amount already, but for that to be the hook I think they are would take it to an extreme. So either the 'standard' inversion record (I'm sure a colossus-esque string of heart lines is doable inside), or some sort of 'trick track' inside which would rotate and disorientate.

Exciting! Or maybe its just for a maze.

I love it. Didn't see it at first but it actually gave me an uneasy feeling when I saw it flash up after the Air snap (about 17.5 seconds in).

At my school, meme sites and such are blocked from viewing, and the little box that pops up categorizes the sites as banned for 'Jokes and Humour'. I know this is very loose, but something about this makes me feel uncomfortable and for some reason, the banned happiness reminded me of the sinister undertones to SW7. :p

The face is kind of a crossover between SW7 and the new Scarefest maze.

The new maze for this year will, in effect, be a 'taster' for SW7 - a 'preview' if you like. The Ministry of Joy are a 'force' that have conducted experiments on humans and The Sanctuary is an abandoned facility where some of these experiments took place.

Presumably the rest of X-Sector will be the area where the Ministry of Joy used to conduct these experiments. SW7 will most likely be another abandoned facility, that has only recently been opened to the public. Then the rest of X-Sector will tie in (like Dave or someone else said on the previous pages) with each ride being a different experiment. The Ministry of Joy are a force, so that does not mean they have always appeared at the forefront, they can control and use others to lead these 'experiments'.

It's quite a simple concept when you think about it. Plus they can easily have it tie-in with Scarefest, as well as the rest of X-Sector next year - good work by Alton Towers.

It's quite funny becuase 99% of the clips used in that video are old promotional videos, espeically the hotel and waterpark, certainly not 2012 videos! The only new bits are ice age and Sub Terra. Liking the creepy logo in them however!
