Blackpool Pleasure Beach: General Discussion

Been at pleasure beach for last few days and one thing I have noticed

They have definitely changed the pricing structure, probably one of the hardest parks to get discount for over the last few years, offering 2 4 1 tickets, 25% off on the door to group tickets, high price per ride to male wristbands look great value, 15/18 quid for parking for example

They want average spend up, and get pennies out of every guest they can, whilst i support this in principle to add new rides and refurb the park, if platinum passes go up too much, if they are pricing it as a luxury product to me then they need to be offering a luxury product and service overall... icon can’t be the only polished premium part of the area,

Let’s be honest it’s the same park just with Icon added and whilst it is a first class ride if they are pricing with Merlin style Icon style investments need to happen over a 4/5 year cycle. ( I’m not saying Merlin are perfect but there passes Work out at like £60 per park and recent investments seem to say they are moving to themed experiences which I support)

I agree regarding the prices, it's too much considering the park aren't offering anything more this year than last (Icon in, Mouse out). The same number of rides and service is average at best, so why such huge price rises?

£16.5 million to recoup

This is true, but (IMO) if they put the charges up too much they run the risk of alienating their audience.

A potential lack of renewal offer for season passes would be terrible for example, some have been passholders for years yet the reward for that loyalty is basically trying to squeeze (potentially) an extra hundred pounds out of us?

Most developed parks put their prices up a few percent each year - irrespective of new rides. For example, Alton Towers has gone up about £3 on 2017.

Have Blackpool put their prices up by more than would reasonably be expected this season?

Yes. The full adult gate price went up by about £6 or £7. A huge jump all at once even with a new ride. And as Jamie has said, there are no more rides on offer than there were last season.

If BPB want to generate income they could always scrap the entry fee or at least offer the £6 back in F&B vouchers or ride tickets and drop the PPR prices massively to entice people in. £3 a coaster seems reasonable.

That's not generating income though (offering the £6 entry back as ride tokens or F&B vouchers), it's loosing money.

Yeah, it went from £32.50 to £39 on the gate, parking has gone from £10 peak, £5-7 off peak to £18 flat rate and there are suggestions that season passes may be heavily increased on last year's renewal price.

Another point to mention, I believe it would have cost around £4 to ride Helix at Liseberg if I had been using their token/ticket system... Icon is £15.. Helix (and Liseberg) waa heaving but BPB are still struggling with gate figures. I fully understand it's a different market, but proof that charging a higher rate doesn't always mean more income and/or a higher level of success?

Again, they know what they are doing...price elasticity of supply and demand is not something that comes easy to coaster geeks.
They struggle to get everyone in during peak hours anyway.
Capacity on the park is reduced from what it was.
Parks usually reduce offers with new ride openings...wickerman apart.
There were few offers when Corkscrew opened...I remember my mum whinging like a tyke about the cost at the time!
And one in one out on coasters...come on...99% of their customers won't agree with you.

We have heard nothing official about season pass costs yet.
Even though you can rely on the gospel according to Temleh.

Edited for language...thought we were in the Tavern, obviously.

Any opinions on getting slightly older children into the park on under 12 tickets? Not sure how they can be strict or enforce it All opinions welcome.

I’ve overheard plenty of chat around the park expressing disappointment about Wild Mouse this season, from the general public. So I will never buy the “It was only popular with coaster enthusiasts” line. But yes, it is factual. They have the same number of coasters this season as they did last season.
