Thorpe Park: General Discussion

A dive coaster really wouldn’t be a very wise investment in my opinion, for a number of reasons. I am actually struggling to understand how the market research has led to this conclusion.

Same way most market research is conducted when you want it to come to the conclusion you've already decided it should, leading questions with no alternatives.

I thought a dive coaster was ruled out years ago because essentially, Thorpe is build on reclaimed land and generally when you dig a hole, it fills with water fairly quickly? (Yes I know a dive coaster doesn't have to go underground, but we know what Merlin are like with their world firsts etc.).
"world's first underwater dive coaster"?

A Dive Machine would make no sense seeing as they already have 3 coasters with vertical or beyond vertical drops (Stealth, Saw and Swarm).

I'd love to see a new gen Vekoma at Thorpe, or an RMC.

:)

A Hyper coaster wouldn't be very "hyper" since the park have a lovely height ceiling of around 200ft due to the proximity to Heathrow...

You'd hope if they got a Dive Machine they'd get a half decent groundwork team, but given the issues with Saw I'd be worried about anything like that being built... Look at the issues Liseberg had...

If they go down the dive machine option something like Baron would be cool, especially if merlin are now wanting to push themed "experiences" like Wickerman.

But an airtime filled B&M or Intamin mega / hyper (with lap bars) id take as it's something we don't really have in the uk.

Make sense???
Thorpe Park free thinking logic rules.
Nice repeat woodie on the dead log flume site, then it might float if it slowly sinks.

The world's first coaster to feature scuba oxygen tank themed trains.
That joke has already been done, by none other than JW himself...

It was an april fool's joke on an old episode of either Going Live or Live and Kicking. After the success of Nemesis, Alton claimed that their next coaster would dive underwater. You'd have to wear scuba gear, and the train would be fitted with a cage over your heads. The water in question would be the main lake in front of the Towers. And the big gimick? They would fill the lake with sharks. The VT ended with JW standing by the lake saying,
"Now I know what you're thinking. 'Sharks need salt water.' But don't worry, we've thought of that."
.... the camera then panned down to a huge pile of bags of salt at his feet.

:p

I'd personally take a RMC or something off-the-wall like a Mack X-treme Spinning Coaster. A dive machine is just a dull "playing it safe" option.

I can't see a RMC though as their market research will no doubt say that Alton Towers already has a wooden coaster and people don't want another one so soon...

Ideally, an RMC coaster around the Loggers Leap lake/old railway route, would be amazing. Its the perfect location for one, and would really add some life back to the most abandoned area of the park. Racing through the woods on something like that would be really fun. The landscape is perfect. The ride could actually take you somewhere, out the back of the park- you'd feel like you're properly exploring.

As it stands, you can see all of the park's coasters quite clearly, hence you know what's going to happen. The element of surprise is totally lacking. This could add would be really great, and a solid addition to the park.

Watch them just build a boring, un-landscaped Dive Coaster on the island behind Stealth and call it a day though

I thought that the park was allowed to exceed Stealth's height after 2018?

Hopefully Thorpe steer away from a dive coaster. Aside from the fact the small ones just aren't very good, the throughputs aren't anywhere near high enough for Thorpe.
