Here we are, the big coaster poll is under way. The first two groups of 6 go live today for one week, and you can vote for the two coasters you want to go through to the next round. The rules are explained here. Only 5 youtube videos can be embedded per post, so there will be three coasters in this post and the other three will be in the reply, so the ordering of the coasters is randomised.

Don't just anonymously vote, as a vote in the replies may be the difference between your favourite going through or going out, and discussion is fun!

ROUND 1 GROUP A

The Swarm, Thorpe Park, UK

Juvelen, Djurs Sommerland, Denmark

Dragon Khan, PortAventura, Spain

Space Mountain: Mission 2 (aka HyperSpace Mountain), Disneyland Paris, France

Junker, PowerLand, Finland

Icon, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, UK

DK for me. The others all seem to have failed to live up to their hype in one way or another.

Hyperspace and Icon for me, Hyperspace was an easy choice to make, as I loved it on my visit to Disneyland Paris this year, Swarm I love but it just isn't as interesting as Icon gets, although both have a vast gap between them and Space Mountain IMO.

Had to go for Dragon Khan and The Swarm. The former because despite its age, it's still a solid ride. The latter because I prefer it over SM:M2, which is the only other coaster I've ridden in this group.

Have to go with Icon and The Swarm. Personally they are the best two here.

I've done all of these bar Junker, which I'm excluding on account of really not looking very good at all, frankly.

Juvelen is an absolute delight, so that's my first pick. A fun first half and then it goes absolutely bonkers with the 2nd launch. A phenomenal family coaster, sadly it has absolutely no hope of going through as POVs can't possibly do it justice.

Dragon Khan is alright, nothing special as B&Ms go and often a bit on rattly side

SMM2 is a ride that's really grown on me lately and gets my 2nd vote. The new trains are a big improvement, they just need to revert to the original theme now!

Icon is the best of UK coaster in this group and I wouldn't bemoan it going through.

Swarm is mediocre in every respect but will probably still go through as too many people will just vote for the rides they've been on.

I can tick off 4 out of the 6 in this set (missing Juvelen and Junker). John has basically summed up my thoughts. SM:M2 is a ride I've really liked from my first ride, and Juvelen looks like loads of fun. The other thrill coasters here aren't great examples of their types.

  • Swarm should be half as long again on top of its track length.
  • Dragon Khan should be the easy winner here on paper, but the rattle really puts me off.
  • Junker's layout looks like a bit of a trundle, and the other Infinity Coasters I've done have been pretty uncomfortable.
  • Icon is good in the afternoon but unforgivably dull first thing in the morning.

Icon and Space Mountain for me.

SM is an excellent back row coaster - I love the whip over the first drop.

Dragon Khan has aged terribly, but I used to love it.

Swarm is incredibly dull.

Confession - I accidentally voted Khan instead of SM.

Rode all of these except Junker, and although I've heard good things it won't be getting my vote. I've gone with;

1. Juvelen - Definitely one of the best family thrill coasters I've done anywhere. A really solid ride that is just lots of fun. The 2nd launch and some maverick style turns are particular highlights!

2. SM:M2 - Now if this poll had been just over a year ago, I would have put this bottom of the group. However my rides last October were great compared my rides in previous years, the new trains make such a big difference! A fast, intense, non head banging coaster.

Others;
Swarm - Does literally nothing for me and is over all too quickly.
Dragon Khan - Too rough for my liking and not a patch on Kumba imo.
Icon - I do really like Icon and am glad we have it in the UK but it just misses out on my vote here. Mainly due to how variable it can be and a few dead spots even when it is running well.
