The iPhone Thread

The iPhone xr is open for pre-orders now. I really like the colours but I don't know why anyone who can afford it wouldn't spend a little more for the Xs

As a lifelong iPhone user, going from my iPhone 7 plus to the Mate 20 Pro.
It's got the triple Leica camera system up to 40MP,
in screen fingerprint reader,
3D projector sensor,
4200 mAh battery,
curved 2K OLED HDR screen,
reverse wireless charging (40W Fast charger included),
7nm processor,
6GB Ram, 128GB upgradable storage,
and they include their new smartwatch and wireless charger with a pre-order all for a similar price to the iPhone XR. It's so compelling to me now, I can't justify paying over a grand for the XS or going back to a 820p LCD on the XR.

Ohhhhh I do love a good Android vs. Apple handbag fight. So much lols.

I had Android handsets from HTC and Samsung before switching to iPhone in 2013 and I’ve never looked back. I had so many issues with the OS of Android on all devices as well as the battery swelling on the Samsung.

The final straw was when I lost all my photos to a system corruption.

iOS is reliable, robust and does what it needs to do.

I’m not a fan girl, and I don’t blow smoke up the rear of Apple at every press event they throw. As a “lay” user, I just think Apple do a better job of providing a solid product compared to my experiences with other brands who offer Android.

Now wasn’t that a balanced viewpoint with no bashing whatsoever? A rarity in this field..

Android was pretty poor up until I would say 2015 when it finally got more stable, and very smooth in its operation. Ive just taken delivery of the OnePlus 6T running Android Pie and its an excellent OS.

I've used iOS as well on friends iPhones and my own iPad. Its ok, but I find it too restrictive and simplistic for my own liking, but, I guess this is why some people like it.

Basically, no OS is better than the other, you just choose what suits you best. I think iOS and Android are pretty much par on par now in terms of reliability and stability.

I've never had a major problem with Android. There's annoying bugs in both android and iOS. However Android phones are much cheaper than iPhones as we all know, if they were able to produce an iPhone the same price as my Android (£230) I would probably get the iPhone.

Plus the new hardware coming from Chinese manufacturers just now is much more exciting than the iPhone world IMO, and the S10 may also have a new design

As a long term iPhone user, it's great to see quite balanced and fair opinions on here. I agree on the software side, iOS has been delightfully easy to use for me. Upgrading was always so easy, all my data down to the wallpaper and phone settings magically transferred onto the new device and it was something I was dreading a little moving to Android. It's been less painful than I thought it would be however.

Apple's price increases ultimately put me off upgrading. It's so nice to have the newest technology (and bigger battery) in a more affordable device. The freedom to customise Android further is still a new and novel feature for me too. I do miss a few features on iOS but so far, I don't regret swapping to Android.

That's something I hear often about iPhones, the seamless upgrade experience. I actually have no idea how good Android is as the couple of times I've got a new computer or phone I like to start fresh. Most of my stuff is in Google Drive anyway

Apple was/is an amazing os. It hasn’t moved on though.

Things that drive me mad:

Keyboard keys used to be so accurate now just meh

Watching purchased movies or tv just does not compare to the Netflix app or prime app

Older models battery dying when iOS updated

Brain washing consumers to spend £1000 on a phone

If I spoke to my younger self 10 years ago and said a coffee would cost £4 and a phone would cost 1k I would have said do one I’m going down the local cafe to get a 50p tea and I will use her phone to call home lol

Apple is miles ahead in terms of hardware regarding the A series SOC's. The amount of power and the efficiency they are getting is nothing compared to a SnapDragon.

Combine that with in-house software they are always going to be ahead.

I do think that the Pixel does change that slightly but only on the software side and not the hardware apart from the camera of course.

Oh and Siri is just dead compared to Google Assistant.

You still prefer Android though, considering that was sent from a P20 Pro? Awesome looking phone IMO but probably more than I would spend.

If I were to get a new phone now I'd consider a second hand Pixel 2 XL. For that camera. The one thing that sucks about my phone is the camera :(

I'd say Huawei's Kirin 20nm SOC is ahead of Apple's actually from the benchmarks I've seen. It's so efficient, I can get through a day at work and still be on 80% battery when I get home. In terms of phone hardware, Huawei are leading by a mile. In terms of software, iOS may still have an edge over android.
