Wicker Man - General Discussion - Part Two

The video has been re uploaded again. Still less than a minute.

However it now has proper Wicker man text along the bottom, rather than some god awful don’t they found on word.

They’ve also removed the phrase “Big Bob” and called it the wicker man structure.

Other than that it’s the same waste of time it was before.

Hopefully they do more for these videos, if they all end up like this then it’s been a waste of time then filming them.

Y’know, it would have been much better if they had done a series involving all the Secret Weapon coasters, and not just Wicker Man. Because when it’s just the one coaster, there really isn’t an awful lot on content they can produce. What they should have done (but won’t do, because it involves more time and effort) is create a series with each episode focusing on one of the coasters, and each being at least five mins long.

So far the only vaguely interesting thing to come out of this Wicker Man Winter rubbish is a few second long clips of areas of the ride we don’t usually get to see. :(

I wonder if they did plan to open it over winter, but for whatever reason it didn't happen so the video was rushed out as an afterthought?

Just a hunch but I'm probably wrong.

Wicker Man literally did not open on its originally planned opening day because of wintery weather.

Alton aren't that foolish to attempt to open it over winter knowing that.

Heavy snowfall in March is not the same thing as generally cold weather though...

But why risk it?

The park will decide what rides to open over winter, if any, months in advance. They can't predict the weather that far in advance, so why risk trying to open it and be prevented by the weather...

It was fanboy pipe dreams thinking it would open over winter

Alton won't risk widescale ride openings in winter.

1. The weather can be dreadful, resulting in widespread losses for the business

2. Technical Services have less time to maintain rides over winter

Of course, in future they could offer a small number of rides as part of a hotel weekend package but so doubt we'll see anything more than that in the short to medium term.

Can I ask was it a wintery day in Staffordshire today? Because up in Lancashire it's been sunny and warm with lots of people out and about wanting to spend this brexit blues money burning a hole in their pocket. Oh....... and they can't spend it at AT because it's not open. But Hey ho let's give it to the Thompsons because Pleasure beach is open.

Opening at this time of year is risky. BPB are just lucky that this year the weather has been unusually warm and sunny. Last March it was snowing.

It may have been almost universally lovely across the country this weekend as far as I know, but it is still February and this weather is pretty exceptional (especially by Blackpool standards I should think, but let's not get into that!). Usually February half term week is cold and damp at best, and can be a lot worse as previous years have proven. I well recall arriving once at a snow-covered Towers on the first weekend of FHT opening and being surprised to find that even one coaster was running (and even more so that said coaster was Air). Even when conditions were better and the full FHT ride lineup was available, it was nice to get on a few rides after the closed season, but the park felt rubbish. When you consider all that, and also that as has been said above it affects main season preparation and can cost the park's tightly controlled coffers as much as it can potentially add to them, I've no issue with it not happening any more.

Did we ever find out what the other proposed theming element for the ride was that was meant to be located on the former fluke station?

Just going through plans and got curious

It was a "smokehouse" on the original plans.
I'm quite glad that didn't get built because even though it is just a cattle pen-like queue line there now, you wouldn't get some of the fantastic shots and angles of the ride and Wicker Man structure itself.

Seriously?! Smokehouse would have been great at Towers, by far the best food option on park if Chessington's is anything to go by. Although why they couldn't turn the Courtyard BBQ into one I don't know. :/
