The World of David Walliams: General Discussion

Nothing wrong with my contacts :p my contacts are not just ground staff, some are higher up management. They either decided not to follow through with their proposals or Merlin didn't approve. It happens a lot in business.

A brief overview of Cloud Cuckoo Land shows us that theres plenty of space for new ride hardware, entertainment and retail / food opportunities.

The below image shows at least four spaces an outdoor attraction could reside, ignoring the space occupied by Driving School as I would assume that would remain in some rethemed variety.

Included in this is a possible four indoor attractions (previously the Theatre, Outta Control, Wobble World and the Education Centre)

It’s pretty criminal the amount of dead space that’s become available over the years in CCL. You look at old maps of the area and it was full of rides, shops, food outlets and shows. Now it’s got 3 rides, no shows and no food options.

If it was me I would re theme the whole area (and when I say retheme I don’t mean just paint all the buildings another colour).

Utilise all the buildings as well and not just the dead end that it’s got.

Come to think of it, what with the new drop towers in CBL frog hopper is likely to be removed also, leaving little left in the area. This could suggest they are clearing it.

It may actually make sense to just treat the space as an expansion to dark Forrest, with a he dungeons opening, the area lends itself perfectly to a medieval street, which could easily be achieved by re-theming existing buildings & adding new ones.

An enclosed wild mouse might actually be a good fit. They’re small in footprint & can be sunken a few meters into the ground to lessen the buildings height. You could have the mice popping out of the “houses” to proved interaction on the street. Could give it a plague undertone or something.

Open some well themed shops & restaurants, with seating areas spilling onto the street, a few themed flats, shows & a couple of entertainers and badabing badaboom you’ve got yourself an exciting new area!

Granted there would then be two/three medieval themed areas in the park, but let’s be honest, towers does lend itself to it!

I would like to see a Victorian/old style funfair open in that area.

They could have Bumper cars,a bigger carousel, wave swinger,Helter Skelter,Swing boats and a Waltzer.

In the Ice age building they could bring back a magic show.
In the former nick building have a fun house or hall of mirrors.

Food have a old style sweet shop where the cafe was and have a popcorn and toffee apple stall.

HB leisure could have hook the duck, hit the coconut and a darts game stall.

I think that area would be perfect for the kids to old for CBeebies but under the height of 1.3m tall.

I just want a light theme tbh. I'd turn Mutiny Bay into the Beornen village and make the CCL area into a pirate themed older child/under 1.4m area. When the Dumbgeons are scrapped by 2020, you have the option for an indoor water ride, couple of flat rides, relocated driving school to the CBeebs area to open the far end up and making the area better flowing. You've got the option for another indoor ride and outlets etc. Maybe even demolish one side of the buildings or the BK and install a flume up there and use some of the other buildings as a food outlet.

I feel that CCL has been underutilised for so long it almost feels as though a re-theme may never happen. The area desperately needs it. At this point I don't even care if it's themed to an outside IP. It would be great to just have a family area with family rides, dining options and maybe a shop or two - things Towers desperately needs. Even 10 years ago I never would've thought Towers would be starving for these kinds of attractions.

As to when it may happen (if at all), I still feel it's a long way off. Much of Merlin's focus is on Cbeebees land, or adding additional projects resort-side (with too much of an emphasis on accomodation). Big investment years at Towers are almost exclusively coasters. The park hasn't had a wholly new dark ride since 2000 (Charlie and the Dungeon are rethemes). And Merlin don't like flat rides unless they are for toddlers. So it's tough to place when exactly this could happen, based on how we know Merlin act - and they're fairly predictable, let's face it.

Didn't Sub Terra count as a dark ride?

Realistically what are the chances of us seeing investment into the area?

more or less than 30% chance?

I fear that when the time comes, it will be the wrong type of investment.

Gimmicks, novelties, an attempt to follow or set trends (think Galactica), with more than half the budget wasted on an unnecessary IP.

I SOMETIMES THINK THERE ARE TWO MERLINS.

GOOD MERLIN - WICKERMAN, SMILER

BAD MERLIN - ICE AGE 4D, SUB TERRA, GALACTICA, FORBIDDEN SWEEP, AND IN ALL PROBABILITY STARGAZING PODS AND POSSIBLY DUNGEONS.

Merlin make decisions from an isolated bubble in Poole whilst their parks and various influences allow particularly un-Merlin things to slip through the net sometimes. Do that too much and Merlin will fire the relevant managers and replace them with people who have a background marketing crisps and Pepsi.

Or, if this 'rogue' idea they tried to stop turns out to be successful, they will turn it into another formula to copy and paste (Wicker Man 2 at Heide Park).

They lumber Alton Towers with the 'Alton Towers Dungeons', but how to make such a contrived idea something vaguely entertaining and original is the park's 'problem', Merlin couldnt really care less. Im sure Alton Towers entertainments have done their very best with the brief.

Not a chance given it's slap bang in between the two existing ones in the UK, which in the grand scheme of things, aren't that far apart.
