I'm sure that those bricks were OK when I last saw them the last day of last season Fireworks weekend.

Is that dirt, or did they manage to pressure wash the writing off?

Justin & I were talking to a member of staff the day before opening, and when we mentioned how faded the original bricks were looking, she did say that the plaza had been jet-washed over winter....

Wonder what DLP do with theirs when they become worn (well a few years ago nothing would've been the answer, but under current ownership standards?)

This is the only UK site that I can find that do printed engrave bricks

http://www.engravebricks.co.uk

And this is what their F&Q's say's about the durability of the bricks

Will the engraving or paver wear out?
This one always raises a smile with us, DEFINITELY NOT. These pavers are standard pavers and suitable for pathway and driveway use in fact local authorities recommend their use, in roadways, car parks and industrial sites, as far as the engraving is concerned as long the brick lasts so will the engraving, however when cleaning if acid or very powerful jet wash is used you could remove the colour, (as I myself found to my cost when recently jet washing my car).

You would have thought that the person that was doing the jet washing would have had the sense to stop after washing out the colour of the first few bricks instead of carrying on?

Im tempted to say

I see that you were tempted o_O

Im tempted to say whoever had an ego so big they needed to pay to have their name printed at the entrance to Alton Towers kinda deserves the karma but that's probably bit unfair. It is very funny though when every super fan just HAD to have one and theyve lasted all of 1 year

It has nothing to do with ego or being a super fan. Like I've mentioned in my earlier post, Jess and I have supported our local Zoo's in the past by purchasing a brick of some sort for our wedding anniversary. For us, it was more of a romantic token as well as supporting our local Zoo.

We saw the brick as similar thing. As advertised, we were expecting to get at least 2 years out of the brick, we knew it probably would be lost in amongst the other sea of name bricks. We knew that other guest entering the park wouldn't care less who names were on the bricks. It had nothing to do with ego, more just a personal thing.

At the end of the day, I'm not going to cry over the print on our brick, regardless whether it had our name on the bricks or not, those bricks now do look a right state and will not do Towers any justice in selling any more bricks. Those bricks should have lasted a lot longer than a year, but yet only in the hands of Merlin, these bricks fails to last a year

FYI, I never paid full price for our brick (Merlin discount). I suppose just having a brick without the print is better than nothing o_O

As far as I'm aware, our brick is now SBNO

Aren't you supporting them by just buying a ticket and visiting?

Maybe I'm just not into bricks.

Yeah buying a ticket or some kind of merchandise you actually get to take home? It's still supporting them.

Don't understand the appeal at all

Given they should of lasted a minimum of 2 years (T&C’s aside) I wonder how product excellence will deal with any complaints regarding them.

You’d rightly feel miffed if someone has jet washed them and taken the paint off.

As you said @RoyJess they looked fine at November.

In the case of our local Zoo, they are actually tiles and not bricks. The money goes towards the cost of the new enclosure where they are displayed.

We could have adopted a Zoo animal, but that only last a year, where as a tile last for many years to come (and so should a brick)

Well that pressure washer did a great job at removing the paint, shame about the dirt and grime which was still visible on the bricks yesterday
