Lewis has been immense this season, especially since the summer break. His performance in comparison to Bottas is remarkable. Bar anything going horribly wrong it will be a well deserved fourth world title, and you can easily argue he could/should have even more by now.
In terms of Sunday's race, rules are rules but it was very harsh on Verstappen and not good for F1. Yes he cut the corner but it made for great viewing! If they don't want people to go off track then have grass or something outside of the the track limits, that would prevent such issues.

Sainz did not make the pass stick, and did not gain an advantage, and was therefore not punished, is my understanding of it anyway.
That being said, he still tried to make the pass, and even though it failed, I think their should of been a punishment. Maybe a penalty point on his licence, but no time penalty since he did not make it stick? If you try to score a goal in football with your hand, and miss the goal, you did not gain an advantage, but the ref will still call a foul as punishment for the attempt to do something against the rules. #CompareApplesAndPears
The problem with putting walls or grass their is if the cars crash out, it takes half the fun away, and does not encourage drivers to try and make a pass as if it goes wrong they end up out of the race. We want it all, cars to finish the race, the ability to overtake, and keeping everyone on the same playing field.
One of the online racing games I play is called iRacing, and it has a concept of off track incident points. Each time you go off track, you get 1 point, reach 17 points during the race, and your DQ. Now that might be a bit extreme, but if you were to say 5 points got you a 5 second stop go penalty, 10 points got you a 10 second penalty, 15 points got you a 15 second penalty, it would allow drivers a little bit of room for error, but encourage them not to take advantage. With the GPS data available from the cars, I do not see why this could not be implemented. Cars could have something flash up to warn them they have got a incident point, and during practice, they would learn where the limits that they can push are.
Yeah I know iR's system, they need something like that IRL, I race in a league that uses it's forefather and was a beta tester for iR, how's Club England, Kate still in charge? (might have that name wrong).
As you say it shouldn't matter that Sainz didn't complete the move, the problem stems from the drivers being told there was no track limits and no punishments would apply, which is why there were no penalties for Ricardo's move on I think it was Bottas where he shoved him off at the exit of turn 1 (you can't penalise for forcing another driver off the track if there's no track edge to force them off) numerous others did it too, and just about everybody cut turn 5 I think it was (the right handler before the left over the brow), so it was just usual FIA inconsistency.
When IMSA took the no track limits route there, they bolted huge great cow pats on the apex's and that solved the corner cutting issue and nobody did it, although Lauda's comment was in his usual jest (because we all know he'd be the first to play the safety card if they did) he does kinda have a point, if they don't want the drivers cutting corners, put grass or gravel there and they won't.

I dunno but if Red Bull don't hire and sack Kvyat on a weekly basis now they need their heads checking.
My hope is Merc goes down the toilet performance wise and gives us a decent three or four way fight for the title, but I'm realistic and know that won't happen so will probably watch MotoGP or Indycars where that can almost be guaranteed.

Meant to post this ages ago, but better late than never.
The opening race of the season was always going to be interesting. Lots of changes, without very much changing.
The Halo device was not as bad as I thought it would be. It is certainly less awful than the skinny rear wings they had in 2011, they just looked so wrong.
The 3 DRS zones did not work. I really dislike DRS, all it allows is the faster drivers to get past the slower drivers more easily, making mistakes less costly. That being said, it did not work at the last race, and hopefully they can resolve the issue of the air flow to make it easier to follow. One article I was reading suggested it starts affecting cars up to 2 seconds behind.
Lewis drove a perfect race all weekend (Sure, he made a few mistakes which Vettel did not, but he was pushing hard to try and pass), but was unlucky with the Virtual Safety Car, Vettel was very lucky, but that is what F1 is all about.
I felt really sorry for Haas, just shows that no matter how much you practice, when it comes to the real thing, and the pressure is on, mistakes can happen. It will be interesting to see how their performance goes over the year, or if it drops as other teams develop their cars.
McLaren look to have made the right choice to drop Honda, but the fact Red Bull are still faster shows that the Chassis is not as good as they were claiming last year, and the 2 Haas dropping out, made the result look better for them.
The next race is Bahrain, and I expect to see Mercedes, Ferrari and RedBull at the front again. Haas, McLaren, Renault and Force India battling it out in the middle, with Sauber, Williams and Torro Rosso battling it out at the back of the grid.

Haas cross threaded the nuts, that's a design flaw and it'll be interesting to see if they get it fixed in time.

Time for its yearly bump
Really enjoyed the first two races of this season. New rules certainly making the racing closer.
Great to see so many youngsters in F1 this season, and all doing a fantastic job.
Slightly off topic, but was also great to see Schumacher on pole position on a Sunday, even if it was only F2. Hopefully he will have a good season.
Looking forward to China in a few weeks, the 1000 F1 race.

As much as I like Red Bull, I am glad the safety car came out and Leclerc got on the podium. He has a great future ahead of him.

It was great to see Lando finishing in 6th, Mclaren seem to have found a part solution to the issues that have plagues them for the past few years. Lets hope they can keep momentum and get both cars in the points next week.
I think this season will be a close one with Bottas, Lewis, Vettel and Lecleric all pushing, with Vettel just making silly mistakes. He will need to sort his bottle before next race as it will start playing on his mind

Vettel has never been able to race wheel to wheel, if you look back at his career he's been in the same rut ever since Torro Rosso and crashes more often than not when anybody gets close to him. The only reason he won those titles was because the Red Bull was the best car.

Makes you wonder what clicked with Mick last year since he was pretty terrible in everything he touched until about July ( especially cos Premat clam up whenever the subject is bought up), mind you his father was fairly crap until he got to F1 too, always remember him and Andrew Gilbert-Scott coming to blows at the Formula Ford Festival one year.

It has been a very interesting season so far and one which I am really enjoying.
I was really excited for the Baku race after watching the F2 races, and I think that meant my expectations were to high, so I felt a little disappointed after the race. It was still a good race, but lacked something.
I think Ferrari are certainly helping Mercedes this season, and if Ferrari had not made those mistakes, I think they could of potentially picked up a win.
