Wicker Man - General Discussion - Part Two

I'm quite glad that didn't get built because even though it is just a cattle pen-like queue line there now, you wouldn't get some of the fantastic shots and angles of the ride and Wicker Man structure itself.

You could have sat down instead and enjoyed some fabulous views of Wickerman with a steak, rather than standing like you do now.

Seriously?! Smokehouse would have been great at Towers, by far the best food option on park if Chessington's is anything to go by. Although why they couldn't turn the Courtyard BBQ into one I don't know. :/
Yes seriously. I agree a Smokehouse would have been good, just not there. As you say the courtyard would be ideal. Plans were submitted for this to be turned into a restaurant/eating area last year or the year before? Maybe when they've finished with putting on the Welcoming scaremaze they might do something with the courtyard.

Yeah but you'd have to pay for the views. Very unlikely you could just go in there and admire the view without buying food!

I don't see the benefit of having a restaurant in the middle of Wicker Man, especially when Courtyard BBQ is a prime location and WM's queue flows perfectly as it is.

I wish they'd just bring back Courtyard as it was.

It could have been a kool architectural feature if it was themed well and been a unique themed eatery on park. But unlike most features that Merlin relentlessly cut from their ride projects, I don't think Wicker Man was particularly missing anything without it.

The space was then gonna be a viewing area and still has signs warning public not to enter the ride area if you look closely, despite the space never being opened up in the end.

This was differnt to The Smiler, where it was going to have a walkway through the coaster underneath it. The way it was built in the end, it just didn't add up and a walkway would be impossible. I still feel the ride is too boxed into a square pit and (had it been possible!) more pathway interaction would have been fantastic

There were plans submitted and approved for a Smokehouse to go where the Courtyard BBQ is, but Towers shelved the plans. They are still valid I believe, don't know why they didn't add it this year given there's not a whole lot of development in the park or 2019.

I'm glad it never went on the Wicker Man site.

I can believe it hasn't been reopened.

Just like I can believe they still haven't reopened half of Cloud Cuckoo Land.
Just like I can believe they still haven't reopened Nemesis Sub Terra.
Just like I can believe they still haven't reopened virtually any of the Towers.

Seems to be a recurring theme here.

Surely there is some legal requirement given the towers are a national historic monument for it to be open to the public for (x) days per annum?!

The Towers not reopening is probably rooted in the stripped operating budget the park gets (like everything wrong at the park).

The park relies a lot on Scarefest to get a big boost at the end of the year and make a lot of money off the mazes. They have most their mazes now running right through the public parts of the Towers, so to reopen would need all mazes to be dismantled and rebuilt at the end of the year.

Right now they only need to rebuild one or two mazes elsewhere on park, so are saving two big jobs and a whole lot of labour, materials, time etc.

It's terrible that nobody can go in the Towers, but if they had the money to do a proper setup every year they probably would. You got to remember the entirety of the vast Winter Wonderland appears and disappears in a matter of weeks (incredible) but the mazes at Alton Towers take months. It's money.

The redeeming thing is that having the mazes in the Towers means people can enjoy the ruins location in a very unique way. Some might say it's sacrilege but as a huge admirer of the building and its history, I think it's quite fun really and (currently) doesn't do any damage to the building.

Reason towers aren't open is due to the fact that its used like a loft.....Think Christmas decorations but scarefest.
Not much of it though, relatively. Surely it wouldn’t take much for a member of staff to unlock a few doors in the morning and then lock them again in the evening.

New sign at the start of the queue. People been complaining they didn't know there were steps? Will we see similar signs in all other queues?

Yeah Nemesis has quite a few, pretty sure Smiler has the most though. :p
