Best Drop Towers?

There used to be an abundance of Fabbri drop towers, especially on the travelling fairground circuit. They seem to have been replaced by star flyers these days.

Only really done Jolly Roger at PWH, which I understand is a Fabbri, which really packs a punch!

Fritt Fall Tilt at Grona Lund. An Intamin stand up and you get a great view of one of the best cities in the world!

That would have been my first freefall drop tower, had it been open when I visited a few years ago :(. Apocalypse took that crown last year :).

Ah right. Thanks @IDB!

Never done Jolly Roger, but I'd imagine it's good if it's anything like Detonator!

Frit Fall is taller than Apocalypse (I think) without being too tall to lose the impact, and the view is great. More people need to get out to Grona Lund.

I think my favourite is High Fall at Movie Park Germany; a stand up drop tower that tilts and isn't that tall leading to a really punchy drop.

Apocalypse remains one of the best for me as well.

:)

First time I did Falcons Fury I was more terrified on the way up. The tilt and hold is interesting though. I think the way the seats throw back out to normal position well before the bottom take a bit of the kick out of the drop.

Love the theming of Tower of Terror. Especially the boiler house. As for the ups and downs it's a bit like wickerman and generates more laughing than screaming.

Done a few space shots at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Old Southport Pleasure land, Volcano at Fantasy Island, and the thrill towers at Ferrari Land and they were all ok.

Hurrakan Condor though at Portaventura was amazing, in hindsight I was annoyed it took me to the final day of the trip to convince myself to go on it.

Sorry to bump the thread, but after a recent visit to Florida, I controversially think that Tower of Terror at Disney's Hollywood Studios might well be my personal favourite drop tower I've done! Yes the drops aren't huge, but they are quite forceful, and the airtime you get with those loose restraints is absolutely insane! Me and my mum came off breathless, and when combined with the dark ride section and theming, I think Tower of Terror is a genuinely outstanding attraction!

Nothing controversial about that at all. Not sure how I missed Tower of Terror in my initial list, I guess it's so good I see it as more of a dark ride than drop tower.

The seatbelts alone make it probably the best drop tower.

I think it depends how you define a drop tower. I tend to treat the term as covering an outdoor ride that lifts you to a great height, stops and makes you fully aware of how high up you are, and then drops you back to the ground. Tower of Terror (well, the Paris version at least as that's the only one I've done) is superb. It's possibly the most complete attraction from start to finish that I've experienced, but the ride experience isn't based on a tense rise up the tower and single massive plummet. The same applies to Mystery Castle; again, an amazing ride (as long as you get the full sequence!), but not a pure drop tower experience.

The best drop tower absolutely has to go to the legendary Frog Hopper. One has had many a wild time on those bad boys.

In seriousness, Apocalypse has to be the one for me. It has the right height to pack a punch before slamming into the breaks.
