Hi all, just thought you might be interested to know we picked up the large trauma towers bench and it is now in Bradford, West Yorkshire
 
Did anyone see the weather yesterday? I'm betting not a single person on park was that unhappy about closing an hour earlier. The queues for everything all day would have been walk on due to weather anyway I'm betting. Got to be crazy go to Blackpool in those conditions.

Honestly don't think it's that bad from the park. And at least they gave out free returns for today with the weather being much better. We are in our way shortly. Only live 40 mins away. First trip if the season for us too. We've been waiting for a nice day.
 
I have been told time and time again by various people on the Internet that the pre-booked wristband sales are what BPB makes massive money from, rather than impulse/walk up trade- an opinion I disagree strongly with but that's just me, however let us assume for a minute all these people are right and I am wrong.

Those people won't have known weeks ago what the weather was going to be like yesterday, they have handed over money in good faith for the hours of 10-6pm, I'm sure BPB would have something to say if a customer handed over a few quid short of the asking price saying 'in my opinion your park isn't worth the asking price' so for BPB to say it's not worth them staying open is ludicrous.

I have seen Thorpe on a 10pm close when it was dead, to the extent that they were allowing us to leave Stealth nip through the gate and go straight back into the air gates.

Did they knock any hours off? Of course not.

It's very unprofessional to short change your customers.
 
Customers weren't short changed.
The terms and conditions are clear, the number of punters on the park was probably less than a hundred after a full day of continuous rain and high winds, and all who did book yesterday got in today for free, on a sunny weekend day.
Think it is only one or two usual suspects who are bothered about a single hours early closing yesterday, with neither on the actual park.
Same old same old.
Didn't excuse it during half term, but yesterday...completely acceptable.
And understandable.
 
I had an unexpectedly awesome few hours on park today due to nice weather and tiny queues. There was a nice atmosphere on park despite the relatively low numbers and I do love a day with no queues! In 3 and a half hours I got on Dipper, Nash, Streak, Steeplechase, Airbender, Derby Racer twice (my favourite flat!) and Icon 6 times ... I'm not arguing with that for a sunny Sunday in June :)

Rob, with all due respect the T&C''s are bull. If you bought a something the fell short of your expectations you'd be within your rights to complain, regardless of what was hidden in the small print.

You can think what you like about the usual suspects, I have just been around every member of staff in my department at work and asked if they would consider the actions of BPB acceptable, not one of them said they would be happy. That could go a long way to explain why PBE members are spending a lot of time wondering why the park is so quiet this year considering Icon is little over a year old. I think it's more a case of the usual blind fan boys happy clapping personally.

Out of interest, since this is an Alton forum, has anyone who visits the Towers on a regular basis ever known them close early when it's quite?

Whilst the above is really good (for you) it's not so great for the park. I mean ride counts like that could be hit at Frontierland, Camelot and American Adventure....oh yeah it worked well for them....

I totally agree that I doubt a single person would have been bothered that it closed early on Saturday if it was raining all day.

However their are a couple of issues I have with the parks current way of thinking....

Firstly they are closing earlier than advertised far too often, and not just when its chucking it down. It seems they are prepared to do this simply when they feel they haven't sold enough pre-booked tickets, as appeared to happen at half term.

And Secondly the wording they use on the website is at the very least misleading and at worst quite possibly against trading standards.

Surely they cannot claim "Earliest Ride Closing Time" if they then put "subject to change" in the small print. That is a total contradiction of the original statement.

If they were to say "Scheduled Ride Closing Time" then I could understand them being able to say "subject to change". But to claim "Earliest" is just a blatant lie.

It also says in the small print that Ride Close time is the latest you have to be in a queue for a ride. And we all know that's not always true !!

On a side note, I was in London this week and noticed it was £15 to park all day in ‘trendy’ Shoreditch. Yes folks, it’s £3 cheaper to park in the capital for the day than it is to park at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

I do agree with @shakey though, to claim ‘earliest ride close time’ and then declare said time to be ‘subject to change’ is totally wrong. But I guess they wouldn’t stoop to writing “This is the earliest time this ride will close unless we decide to close it earlier than that”, even though that’s pretty much how it is in reality

Never known Towers close early. Least they have that. They say open till 4pm and that’s what they do
 
I have no issues with parks closing early if the weather is horrible. Parks all over the world do this. As long as an open return or refund is issued - you can't believe you are being short changed.

In terms of weather, BPB is subjected to worse than towers - simply due to where it is located. The wind tolerances are more relevant at BPB too - because the rides are taller, and more likely to be subjected to wind.

So, if you don't agree with BPB closing early (and I do understand why), what should the trigger for closing a park be? 50% of rides unable to operate? Danger to public?
