Scarefest 2019

Shame they’ve moved the stage back to the lawns. I thought the Fountain Square location was much better.

If they'd kept it in Fountain Square though it'd block the huge advert for the Dungeons. Considering nobody would care that they exist without that advert... obviously.

My opinion (for what it’s worth).

Decent line up, I don’t think it’s terrible mazes running for 4 years (most scare events do this). My issue is the price.

£28 for 4 mazes is just stupid.

Also good to see they're expanding options for the kids with the Monster Ball; obviously not the cup of tea for the majority of us but hopefully it is done well.

Monster Ball was one of the new additions last year but seemed to largely not be advertised - though I suspect anything in CBeebies Land doesn't really need much of a push to get an audience.

Interestingly it looks like Ghoul School is returning this year, so clearly Ghoulish Games didn't go down so well last year.

If they used the same stage as last year and kept it in Fountain Square, they could use the screen on the stage to advertise The Dungeons between shows... not that I care about The Dungeons.

I hope Project 42 has some big changes. It was the most disappointing maze last year.

I guess they get bigger audiences when the stage is at the bottom of Towers St due to the proximity to CBeebies Land where most of the target market spend their day.

Nipping out of CBeebies to watch a 20min show on the stage on the lawns is probably more realistic than trekking toddlers over to fountain square.

Fully agree about the price it’s crazy however I’m sure I read MAP discount available which is good.

Lack of free maze yet again is rubbish as is another year without a scare zone.

Couldn’t make it last year though so I am looking forward to it

Maybe house of monsters isn't returning due to a potential cloud cuckoo land closure ahead of potential redevelopment...
I have had confirmation from a secret source that House Of Monsters will not be returning but the building will be used for something else ;)

Yeah, storage...

Anyway, regarding the scarier version of dungeons...what, honestly, can they do to make it scarier?
The obvious answer is just add more jump scares but the scenes are so scripted that I can't see that working without derailing said scene. They could have actors in the transition scenes but the existing actors already provide scares here, so that won't make it scarier.
What I think they might do, is add a maze section to the end, the reason I think that is because

1 it takes little effort (just change one line in the ending speal and set up a few tents outside the exit)

2 the ending speal already feels like the perfect maze set up (what with the intense music and the script, it honestly feels like there was meant to be a maze section there but it got cut at the last sec)

3 I really can't see anything else they could do without breaking the attractions pacing

I think more or less its just been done as a marketing pull and to add another 'attraction' to the line-up to make it feel fuller in terms of promoting and selling Scarefest as an event. I think the most you'll get is a few minor script changes.

Just heard a bit of monorail audio that I find quite suspect.
It flatly talks about scarefest as an event THEN says "on selected dates in Oct, you can ride the rides in the dark" (or something to that effect)
Anyway, given Merlin's track record. Think they are going to try close scarefest early again?

It simply means the dates Scarefest is running as it does not run on every single day in October.

I doubt it, it probably means Scarefest is only on selected days (isn't it only weekends until half term?)

This was posted on Alton's guest comments page today, I don't know how legit this is? Could be an old photo or has these boards really appeared onside over the last few days?
