On a side note, wonder why Nemesis is down? I know why Wicker Man's down, but I wonder what's playing up with Nemesis?
From the Alton Towers Twitter feed:

I wonder if this is the same area that they recently had to work on?

I really hope they get these ride issues sorted by next weekend. No nemesis and wickerman makes it hardly worth the trip.

I've coded an app that texts the ride queue times to my phone every 30 minutes, and it's been very interesting watching them roll in today. Been telling all my friends about how big the queues are at Alton Towers, the UK's number 1 theme park. They keep asking for updates, so as you can imagine I'm quite the popular man today. Popular yes... but I recently fractured my ankle on a cattle grid, so I would give up being so in demand to just have one day of walking without a crutch. But that's life for you I guess. One day you're looking at big queue times on your phone, the next you are disabled.

Finally, after years of ruining what once was the UK's best theme park, merlin are now being bought. 'we will use our wealth and experience as we acknowledge the potential growth'. Wow that statement makes me burst out with joy. Too long merlin have ruined my home park and hopefully soon things will change. Just these 3 things will do:
- more investment
- better opening hours
- much improved ride reliability
Recently the reliability has been terrible with nemmy and wicker down for maintenance. How has it taken them until now to do this, when all the crowds are pouring in. Pathetic and is why I hate merlin

Do you really think that they are deliberately carrying out maintenance in the middle of the season on Nemesis and Wicker Man? If parts break and replacements are needed, or there are other unexpected issues with a ride, then said ride will close. It is nothing to do with Merlin or Alton Towers; they have no say in when a part goes bang.

I would presume it takes a certain amount of time for parts to arrive from the coasters' respective manufacturers! I'm sure Alton are just as sad about having to close these rides as we are, but they're doing their best to reopen them!

Does anyone know what’s actually wrong with Nemesis?

I can’t imagine a trip to AT without it and off there next Friday. Might have to have a little cry and prayer beside the smokey gun if not.

Yeah if its a one off and especially if its a new ride, then this sort of thing is just the way the world works. There's no magic wand to stop it happening and its all about how it gets sorted out.

What's more, it's hard to fault the park when they have one of the biggest and most diverse coaster line ups of any park in the country. We didn't even have Wicker Man until 2 years ago, the park is now in the best place its ever been for coasters taking the slack when one goes down.

Maintenance of older attractions on the other hand is a Merlin problem!

No I understand that but they never seem to sort the problem first time there and then. Wicker man's chain lift had some problems as pointed out by people on here, then a couple of weeks later it shuts. They have a crane over nemesis and now it's shut again most likely because of the track

To be fair, the chain being "broken" was merely an assumption by people on the forum based on it behaving differently to what we've seen before. It doesn't necessarily mean that that's the cause of the recent downtime.

They were probably the first to know about the chain behaviour, not people on forums, and they have to shut the ride to undertake a big repair. You make it sound like they could have fixed it with the ride still open had they done it sooner.

If the ride had been open for 10 years with maintenance neglected and problems ignored until they grow too big to fix easily, then it would be a different story. But Wicker Man is only a year old and downtime like this is totally to be expected

Anyone else know if there have always been two bolts missing from the left hand side on the piece of track just coming out of the vertical loop on Nemesis? Noticed it yesterday and not just the bolts were missing but a segment of metal that also surrounded the bolts looked as though it was snapped off. I have no idea if this has always been the case but has anyone else ever noticed this?
