Why does the Smiler pull such big queues?

Not hating but I don’t see the big deal personally. Is it through put? Or just generally it’s loved? The restraints hurts my legs and the theme tune makes me want to hit my head on a wall.

The typically Merlin combo of a low capacity ride + too many fastrack users.

I don't bother with it if it's outside the disco building.

Smiler capacity isn't amazing but it's probably better than, say Rita and not far off what Thirteen gets these days. Fastrack allocations aren't huge either - less than Nemesis/Galactica/Oblivion/Thirteen as it's not on the bronze package.

The public rate it, it's that simple - just look at how many people you still see wearing Smiler merch around the park.

It's not so much the length of the queue, it's clearly very popular with the public. It's how slow it moves, it's a very tedious line to wait in. I don't know exactly what the capacities are but Thirteen shifts through people a lot quicker.

Completely right, the queue for the smiler doesn't even need to be big for it to be tedious because of how slow it moves. I assume the throughout has been reduced recently as I remember in April queueing just outside correction block and it was 20 mins. But 2 weeks ago, from a similar point, it was 40. What's that about then?!

This may help you, they’ve modified the indoor queue slightly, all that happens now we go to the far end and wait at the chain, they take a fence panel out which means we don’t come back to the door side and go back to the chain side.

Out of interest, is it still possible to ride in the back row of Nemesis? As people often say that back row far right is their favourite row on Nemesis, but the back is always chained off whenever I go.

It’s possible but unlikely on a busy day. Back row is reserved for RAP, so on busy days there can be a constant stream of people waiting in RAP queue. On quieter days if there is no one waiting for RAP they open the back row.

To expand on the above, even on busy days you will probably have a chance towards the very start or end of the day, though obviously doing Nemesis first or last thing is not an optimal strategy if you want to get on all the rides on a busy day without resorting to fastrack.

I advise you to start in X sector first, then DF and then FV. If you do the rides in that order you will get them done more efficiently. As said starting on a quieter ride isn't great as you'll have to queue longer for the busier rides. If, for example, smiler is on 30 mins, don't skip it and come back as you may as well queue. You'll have to queue more like 60 mins if you leave it til later

You can drop on lucky as it opens when there's no RAP waiting. Yesterday it opened just as we entered the station, then closed again as soon as we got on the train.

Also when it is chained off and you’re waiting in the second to last gate if you can’t see anyone in the RAP queue just ask the ops if you can go back row, they usually oblige :)

Does anyone know how busy the park will be this Friday? I know I should expect it to be busy but looking at recent years, this Friday has always been quieter than the rest of the week. Why is this?

Because it’s the last day of term for most of the country. School trips typically don’t take place on the last day - so there is often a significant drop in numbers from the rest of the week.
