Smiler incident rumour

Anyone who is a member of the Alton Towers past Facebook group may have seen a post yesterday from a rather illiterate gentleman in which he suggests numerous rides were closed for various reason however he seems to suggest that someone was stuck in the face on the Smiler by a watch belonging to someone in another train.

It all sounds a bit far fetched to me, but I just wondered if anyone from here was on park and could confirm/deny it.

If it is true it could potentially cause some problems for the trains being on the track together, think back to Dueling Dragons.

If it's all a load of bull mods feel free to lock the topic.

Thanks,

Ash

I highly doubt they will switch to single train on track operations.
What wouldn't surprise me would be Merlin bring extremely heavy handed on culprits.

What you have to think about is DD was in operation for 12 years before the 2 incidents occurring and it was just bad luck that 2 happened in quick succession. Another point the throughput on DD wasn’t affected by the change, the smiler’s throughput would be destroyed if that change were to happen, I do know that safety comes before throughput.

Ironically I think DD''s throughput actually increased as they simply loaded each coaster and dispatched without the need to wait for the other side to be ready.

The post seems to have been deleted now anyway. I'm calling BS on this one. I did check ride times a few times yesterday and, apart from the usual occasional ten minute stoppage here and there, rides seemed to working ok. Certainly never saw 5 rides down at the same time.

I can see someone in one of the back rows getting hit by something being carried in the front rows (hence why they are so hot on it on Oblivion), but not another car, that's next level sniper accuracy considering how rough and fast the thing is.

It's certainly not impossible for such a thing to have happened. I can think of a couple of times in the past when a non-enthusiats / member of the GP has claimed a minor to moderate accident has occurred, and none of us lot were aware of it, but it has turned out to be true.
So from past experience I won't dismiss this outright. However, the onus of proof sits on them, as far as I'm concerned. In this day and age, it would be nearly impossible for such a thing not to be all over social media and even the news.
