The World of David Walliams: General Discussion

Wish the entire Park was under New Management - we may get something decent then, as opposed to some short-term minimal investment, marketed by Leek Signs, designed to make a fast buck or two for Merlin. Cough, Dungeon. Cough Stargazing Pods etc...

Agreed, could point towards Paddington maybe? Now just keep your eyes peeled for marmalade sandwiches popping up on the menus. :p
Does anyone know where a could get a 1:1 vinyl sticker of a jar of marmalade.

Wouldn't be surpised if it was a Paddington Bear-themed walk-through attraction simillar to Chessington's ROTB after the success of the latter.

I'd be very surprised if Towers went with Lego. As an IP Lego stays with lego, it's a worldwide brand and bigger than we care to imagine. It's not what Towers needs nor wants and would put it in direct competition with CBeebies given the age bracket. Lego offers little in comparison to what's already on offer and if it's going to be Lego, then it has to be vast and expensive and in the right place, this isn't the right place and I don't feel the IP would allow it.

Lego, although is aimed at the age just above CBeebies, is not (IMO), what the park should be offering which is also extensively offered elsewhere also.

I can tell you now it’s not lego

The Gardaland water park and the success of LDCs indicate Merlin aren't afraid to use the Lego brand outside of the core Legoland parks if they think they have a viable concept.

I'd be surprised if it was Lego... but who knows. I once prophesied that they definitely wouldn't build a dungeon and if they did it would definitely be free.

Everyone might disagree about what should be in CCL, but the broad agreement seems to be that this area has much under realised potential.
Surrounded by stone walls, an area of flat land and with existing structures that should form a cohesive, exciting part of the draw to AT....

The current hoardings don"t suggest anything that will achieve that is coming just yet. It might give one building a new purpose, but CCL needs something that makes the whole area from the Burger Kitchen through to the driving school work as a land.
I'd make a guess they are going to stick an inflatable assault course in ther like their other UK theme parks; just like nobody was asking for.

I have a rough idea what it will be.... the company I work for supplies lighting and all I will say is we have a scheme in design for an attraction at AT for next year. And that attraction is not Lego based or themed. Obviously I cannot go into further details.

Personally from what I do know I think this is a huge missed opportunity again. As the last post said the infrastructure is already in the area to make this an exciting part of the park. It’s an area I haven’t been in since I was 11 - I’m 34 now!

Construction fences are up around House of Monsters alluding to the new re-theme. Photos from TS Facebook:

Strangely, a lot of people seem to reckon that this work is only for one attraction. They've said that it is too late for anything major; a common rumour is something similar to Room on the Broom at Chessington in the House of Monsters space. I'm still thinking a full retheme of CCL, personally; CBeebies Land didn't start construction until September 2013, so there's definitely still time. Also, Alton have clearly had CCL in their sights previously, what with the alleged David Williams World rumour.

'Exciting new experiences' suggests this will be more than one attraction. Whether it is a full retheme is another matter.
I'd honestly be up for a refurbishment/expansion of the existing area; I do actually quite like the original premise of the CCL theme!

I think the whole "fantasy land" theme works very well in a theme park environment, and I can think of many ways the park could utilise the theme & characters of the area to a greater extent. Some of my ideas include;
  • I could see a family coaster themed to Snorlix, the area's dragon (I think?) mascot from the early days; maybe a Mack YoungStar or Gerstlauer Family Coaster would be good! For a name, I could see Snorlix Flyer.
  • I could also see some sort of spinning family ride themed to one of Sir Algenon's gizmos; maybe a Zamperla Aero Top Jet or something named Sir Algenon's Flying Machines?
  • Furthermore, I could see a custom 4D film showing off Cloud Cuckoo Land and its characters called The Wonderful World of Cloud Cuckoo Land; I believe this was the same name as the original show in the area when it opened in 2009?
  • I could see a little bit of an overhaul of some of the existing flat rides, like Frog Hopper and Gallopers Carousel, as well as the driving school with a bit more of a fantasy garden theme.
  • Finally, there could be a walkthrough attraction themed to Sir Algenon in the House of Monsters space; it could even utilise the name of the former Sir Algenon's Attic show!
I know it's unlikely to happen, but what do you guys think of my ideas?

I agree the theme is good still, but the rides and area are tired (or removed).

In addition to a few new flats, I think some non-queue attractions are important for kids, to break up their day. Something like a splash pad for hot days (preferably one you can adjust from being super wet in the hot summer to just a bit wet in the cold), then maybe a maze, super high flow walk through attraction, play areas and other things to see and do to break up the ride queues.

I think the loss of a large family dark ride is terrible, and has deeply cut Alton towers line up, and their reputation as a park for the whole family too. I think it's imperative they work out a new large scale family dark ride.

Family coasters are important too, and an indoor family coaster which is heavily themed would be a fantastic addition to the park.
