Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Well, I went and endured Bouncezilla today. It's certainly... a thing. Physical exertion at its finest, despite the layout being much smaller than I was expecting. Didn't enjoy it much at all.
I think your the first person who I've heard say they didn't enjoy it!

There are all sorts of variables that mean coasters speed up and slow down, but with Nemesis Inferno I think in part people are actually just kinder about that ride now than they once were.

When it opened, forums like this were agog with "This ride doesn't deserve the Nemesis banner" etc - glad to see the coaster community has grown out of such things :)rolleyes:). Now with all that nonsense aside people have concluded it is what it always has been, a solid mid-size B&M inverter without the features that make its namesake one of the greatest.

Nah, Ninferno has seriously improved with age. It really was quite poor in direct comparison to an already worn in original when it opened. I've got more miserable in general over time, so that would counteract any original Nemesis comparison issues back then.

It certainly does run better than it used to, it whips through elements it used to meander through. I'm sure it's noticeably faster, it's probably a little less smooth too. The glass smooth running of a new B&M is a remarkable thing but can leave a ride feeling a little soulless, some wear gives it personality.

Nothing compared to The Swarm though, what was pretty dull for it's first couple of years now hits some real intense moments. It's aged incredibly.

Agree with this, was in TP on Tuesday (absolutely wazzed it down, 5 min queues however), the swarm was excellent. Probably the best ride I've had on any ride all year. Stealth however, was incredibly painful in the rain. Had a great ride on Inferno also.

Try front row in the rain!

I don't particularly like really strong, sustained positive g's on coasters, but for me, The Swarm has now struck that wonderful balance where it's forceful enough to feel thrilling, but also not quite forceful enough to inhibit my enjoyment of it! This is a balance that I feel many B&Ms strike; I find that my favourite coaster Mako is very similar. I also find that rides like Nemesis and Montu strike that balance wonderfully too. Unlike most enthusiasts, there is only a certain level of intensity I can really enjoy; rides like Manta at SeaWorld Orlando and Thorpe's own Saw do kind of exceed this for me, and they're examples of coasters I'd enjoy more if they were less intense (especially Manta. Saw's roughness also inhibits my enjoyment of it, potentially more than the intensity.). I'd even say that I found The Smiler a little bit too intense the last time I rode it. But I find that B&Ms like Nemesis, Mako and The Swarm have just the right amount of thrill for me.

I'd definitely agree that The Swarm has aged extremely well, but I'd also say that it has quite remarkably done this without sacrificing any smoothness. When I rode last year, I thought that The Swarm was absolutely fantastic, and just as glass smooth as it was when I first rode in 2014!

As for The Swarm, I find it an immensely fun and rerideable coaster, and it's controversially my favourite coaster at Thorpe! If there's one ride I'm absolutely buzzing to get back on when I'm at Thorpe for the late opening tomorrow, it's The Swarm!

Sorry for double posting, but just came here to tell you all about my wonderful day at Thorpe Park today! We got 12 rides in (between 12pm and 7pm) and the park was unexpectedly quiet! Operations were also very good; Swarm, Inferno, Colossus and Stealth were all on 2 trains!

1st time at Thorpe Park in years today, down time was a shambles, 90% or rides which were open closed when we were queuing, but I take back how much I underrated Nemesis Inferno. New found love for it. It even made me buy a key ring after I found off.

Really? You’re lucky. Queued for Inferno. Broke down, queued for Tidal wave, broke down, Walking dead, broke down (gave us fast track) which we used on Saw. Once last ride on inferno which stopped on the lift hill for 5 or so mins, swarm finally opened but had enough by then.

Went for the first time in years today, really enjoyed it despite not getting on stealth. Couple of observations;

Ops were decent and everything was running 2 trains. Longest wait was 1hr for Saw but that did include a temporary stoppage due to a thunderstorm. Aside from that we were on everything quicker than the advertised wait times (barring DBGT)

Speaking of DBGT it was my first visit since it’s construction so I rode both it and walking dead for the 1st time. Walking dead I thought was actually really well put together, the coaster is nothing special but the atmosphere and especially the actors in the exit corridor really made the ride for me. DBGT now.. again the actor led scenes were good but the VR really didn’t appeal to me, found the ride itself a bit boring in all honesty and seemed to be having issues with batching people. Glad I’ve done it but wouldn’t wait any length of time to ride again.

In terms of the coasters Swarm still rules the roost but Inferno has definitely become more intense and was running brilliantly. Colossus also running pretty smooth compared to previously however Saw needs some work, indoor section is still great & its a good layout but its so rough after that midcourse. New coaster surely the main priority now

Free suncream is a great idea and more parks should get on board with it. Kiosks seemed more well staffed than last time I visited towers. Like the summer events they do (bouncezilla was so fun) & good the park was open 10-6 on a weekday.
