Wicker Man - General Discussion - Part Two

In a number of baffling situations this season the FT allocation has been dwarfed by the number of RAP users, therefore in some cases cutting FT by even a meaningful percentage wouldn't have helped greatly.

I still don't understand fast track, especially the single shot ones.

You only save on average 10 minutes off the main queue.

The time and hassle of purchasing your one shot fast track, even having to walk over to the guest services, queuing up at guest services to obtain them, to me, what you save in time in the ride queue-line is spent purchasing/obtaining your fast track.

It's a bit like our local Sealife centre, when it rains, people will still queue outside for an hour in the rain to get our of the rain

I think that depends wholly on the ride, the staff member managing the queues and the side of bed they got out of that morning.

I've certainly experienced what you described but equally have been in a 2 hour Smiler queue where friends with FT have literally walked on.

They do seem to be finally latching onto the idea that people will pay literally anything to skip the queues and setting prices accordingly.

Unfortunately with the combination of the recent surge in RAP use and the parks' use of complimentary fastrack as a "get of jail free card" following any form of guest complaint, rationing the sale of them can only help the main queue so much.

You can still end up waiting ages in fastrack queue. If it's really busy and fastrack is sold out, then 1/5 of people are stood in fastrack queues, making it not value for money
What they need is a "FasterTrack" option. £25 per ride and you go straight to the front of the standard Fast track queue. A double queue jump !!

Shhh, don't tell towers or they will probably introduce it !

To be fair a few years back Thorpe used to have a separate queue in their FT outlet which skipped the whole queue to buy FT if you were buying the ultimate package.

But BPB pretty much already do that shakey with the top level speedypass!
Not seen them being escorted via the exit platform on Icon yet then?

Sorry to be the first post in this thread in not far off a year, but I only wanted to ask; am I the only one who isn’t finding Wicker Man rough this season? I’ve heard quite a few people saying it’s very rough this season, with some even saying they opted against riding it and that it was hurting their back and giving them massive headaches. I’ve heard people calling it “unbearably rough”, which naturally worried me seeing as I have a very low roughness tolerance.

However, when I rode towards the back a week or two ago, I didn’t personally find it to be unbearably rough at all, and I came off it with no pain at all. To me, it just felt like a regular wooden coaster, and about as smooth as a wooden coaster is ever going to be (discounting Intamin prefabs and RMCs). The ride’s smoothness did not bother me at all, which I find strange given that I have a very low roughness tolerance and all these reports of people finding it unbearably uncomfortable now.

Is there anyone else who isn’t finding Wicker Man unbearably rough this season, or is it only me who found it perfectly fine?

It could be just the weight distribution, maybe some people have been unlucky?

"roughness" is a weird thing. I mean, i've never banged my head, or shoulders, on the Smiler, but have smashed my ears on Nemeis.

I haven't read Wicker Man yet this season, but i don't suppose it's detoriated dramatically in the few weeks that it's been open this year.

It's definitely developing a bit more of a rattle I guess, but it's really not rough. Feels slightly faster if anything & Riding better than ever this year in my opinion.

Woodies are rough as standard, we all know that. If you want a smoother ride on Wicker Man ride it first thing in the morning.

Wicker Man? Rough? On what planet?
I know right it really isn't. People seem to be very dramatic about how rough rides are in the uk. Personally I don't think any coaster at towers is rough. Granted Rita, Smiler and spinball throw you about a bit more but I don't find them rough. And as for wicker man, well I rode it few days ago and it's still one of the smoothest woodies I've ridden, as smooth as GCIs get really. The only ride I found uncomfortable at towers is galactica and that's the restraints not the actual ride

I didn’t think it was rough either, but I thought I must have got 2 good rides on it or something, because as I said, I have a very low roughness tolerance, but was buzzing to go back round for another go after my first ride, because I thought it was running wonderfully! Not painful at all, really fast and quite a bit of airtime! I definitely found Smiler front row far more painful and dare I say it, but I even found Nemesis more painful than Wicker Man! It was definitely one of the smoother rides we rode on our visit; Wicker Man’s smoothness did not bother me at all, personally, although I accept that we all have different experiences on these rides!

Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion on these rides, but for me, Wicker Man is definitely my favourite coaster at Towers by quite some distance and only just beaten by Icon in terms of my favourite UK coasters! I personally think fun is an under appreciated element of roller coasters, and Wicker Man gives it to me in huge quantities due to its insane pace and many pops of airtime, but also down to the fact that it provides this while also not being excessively intense and being extremely rerideable!
