Blackpool Pleasure Beach: General Discussion

I side with the guests here, I always bring a packed lunch to amusement parks because food at my local supermarket is many times cheaper than at any theme park and I will continue with packed lunches until the parks cut their food prices to reasonable prices. (Towers once charged me £15 for a burger).

They didn't spot my packed lunch and stop me when I visited a few months ago. :tearsofjoy:
 
I totally agree, the pack-up ban at Pleasure Beach is ridiculous, and the only park I’ve (knowingly) ever been to that actively disallow picnics. The only saving grace is the Spoons right next door, so it doesn’t affect me too much.

“Any sharp or blunt objects?”
“Yes.”
“Fine, any sandwiches?”
“Yes.”
“Sorry you’re going to have to leave these with us.”

The sandwich security, everybody!

Leave them alone, they have already said there is no space!
Its not as if they are going to remove a popular coaster and flat ride from around a fountain in the centre of the park leaving an area perfect for picnics, next you will want a stage and big screen to entertain you whilst you eat your food, geeeez
 
This picnic story keeps getting recycled every few months with different guests.

I really don't understand why it is such a problem.

Food prices are reasonable compared to most parks but if you have to take a picnic then either stick it in a locker outside the park or leave it in your car if its parked close by, then just nip out to eat your picnic when you get hungry. It isn't rocket science.

Pleasure beach doesn't have the space to provide hundreds of picnic tables and it doesn't have sprawling acres of grass to sit on either.

It would be chaos if everyone took a picnic into the park so I totally agree with the parks policy but i do think lockers should be cheaper and they should try and get more tables outside the entrance.

Maybe have a dedicated picnic room somewhere just outside the park too.

The free picnic room is the round information desk...used by many in the rain!
Nothing funnier than keeping half a baguette wrapped in cling film down the front of your trousers, then waving it at security as you have got in!
To give him credit, the security guy did laugh his head off as he chased me into the park.
Little things please little minds.
 
Park under the tunnel and use the dedicated season pass entrance and you can have a full picnic in the car seconds from the park ;) usually what we do anyway!

Did eat at coasters last month and found it reasonable quality with a decent price to match, even got season pass discount!

Those with special dietary needs can take food in as per the website. (This was added between April 8-9th this year before anyone starts a conspiracy theory :p)

Please note the following items are permitted beyond the main entrance:
  • Bottled water
  • Any food for medical purposes
  • Any food required for special dietary needs
  • Baby food/baby formula
  • Guests with special dietary requirements can report to an Ambassador upon arrival.
Did you know?
A dedicated picnic area with tables and umbrellas is provided adjacent to the entrance of Pleasure Beach on the Adventure Golf site.

As for the article its a complete non-story. All the information is easily found on the internet. Up there with the idiots that turn up at theme parks on closed days. Whether or not you agree with the BPB it is their policy and they have clearly advertised it
 
The dedicated season pass entrance was a bit of a joke, I’ve whinged about it many a time. Usually park pretty much right outside it £7 for the day
 
I feel confiscating food is a step too far. You wouldn't get search and have food confiscated if you entered a shop or restaurant, you are just simply told not to consume food.

For me it's not the ban on the ban of eating your own pack up lunch on the pleasure beach that is the problem, it's the confiscation of your food that is the issue.

If I was on a day trip and had brought some food, pack up lunch, the last thing that I would expect entering a tourist attraction is to be search and have food confiscated. If I enter premises where there is clear signs saying "Only food purchased on these premises may be consumed" then I will keep my food in my bag and consume it once I leave the premises.

The same goes for smoking, it's now illegal to smoke inside premises, I don't expect smokers to be search and have their cigarettes confiscated if they would like to enter the premises, however lighting up will inure a fine.

The food isn't confiscated.
It is not allowed on the park.
The customer either eats it at the barrier (seen it many times), puts it in a locker, takes it back to the car, or throws it away in the barrier bins.
It is skunk and grinders that get confiscated.
Seen that many times as well.
 
I'm amazed they were caught at all given how much of a token gesture the security screening is at BPB.

I'm always surprised people keep quoting the "no space for people to picnic" argument. I can see why the park make that argument rather than openly say they want you to spend money at their F&B outlets, but people just seem to take the claim at face value for some reason. Someone eating a picnic by the fountains takes up the same space as someone eating food bought from the shipping containers there.
