Morning all,
Visited AT for the first time in years yesterday after persuading my mate to make the 3hr drive there and back.
It was considerably busier then I expected it to be, absolutely heaving with people! Queue-times shows it as 99% crowd from an estimated 49%.
I arrived at 9:50, and although traffic was bad on the run up to the park entrance, the marshals did a fantastic job keeping it flowing, the Monorail was heaving so walked to the park entrance and I’ll be honest seeing corkscrew up there took me back to be a kid again, the atmosphere was incredible.
Ticket sales and entry were moving quickly too.
First stop of the day was Air/Galactica as Nemmy was closed for the first hour. Ride itself is just as good as I remember it with a nice bit of air time in the back tow. The tunnel to the chain hill had lighting effects on and the mister on the portal was on too. They were only running two cars and one station however.
Next up, Oblivion. There was a closure for about 20 minutes while they added another car to the tracks (running a total of 5), but the fifth car massively helped queue times overall. Again, surprisingly smooth and they had the misters on for the hole. All the TVs showing in pre-ride were up and running too. Overall very impressed so far with it. Forgot just how steep that drop feels when your falling through it though!
Smilers wueue time was over an hour with constant closures and delays through the day, so made way to spinball.
Wasps were plenty in the queue and the first brake run tower seems to be shaking a lot but otherwise it’s a good filler rollercoaster if the queue isn’t huge.
Nemmy next. All the waterfalls were on but not running red unfortunately, but my god is she still buttery smooth! Would never believe she was 25 years old. Restraints were comfy and I still get the out of my stomach feeling climbing that lift hill. Fantastic as always.
Food stop, stopped in CCL Burger Kitchen with the intention of riding Rita. Food quality wasn’t bad at all, expensive as you’d expect but definetely better then expected from other reports.
Rita’s queue was 80 minutes, and was only running one car for some reason, so passed and went on the rapids of all things.
Rapids were about as I remember them, maybe not quite as bumpy as they used to be though that could just be growing up a little! The waterfall on the right of the passage was off though so stayed dry throughout.
Finally decided to jump into Wicker Mans queue to end the day. My god that pre-show. It’s incredible. Utterly incredible. The theming is so well done, and the ride. Well it’s a woodie, and it’s amazing. Very tight and twisty, surprisingly few air time moments but plenty of head choppers and twisted drops. Well worth the ride. Had all the fire and mist effects on also!
Skyride did seem to be having some issues throughout the day with stoppages.
Overall; After 7.5miles walked through the park, it’s not quite how I remember it as an 11 year old but my god does it still make me smile. Nemmy Air and Oblivion are still the favourite three, but WMs theming was utterly incredible and deserves reconition. Plenty of street entertainers today as well. Operations didn’t do too bad today, and just based off today’s experience I’d do the day trip again (all 6hrs driving of it!).
Planning to go for three days with family early middle of next year, so will have another review then!
