Kings Island: General Discussion

Sad to see another Arrow coaster bite the dust. Thought it was OK when I went on it in June. Just wish I'd got a few more rides in.

Strange time to remove it what with Orion opening next year (which replaces Firehawk that went last year) so it could be a few years before anything substantial gets put into the place as well. Was also the site of Arrows first suspended coaster The Bat as well. In fact it reused the station building.

Weirdly Kings Island seems just as famous for some of its former rides than what they have in place today.

Due to the lack of any (AFAIK) Arrow looping coasters in Europe, the only one I've done is Dragon at Ocean Park Hong Kong. It's good fun, though probably helped by its surroundings

Construction of Orion is progressing and you can now see how annoyingly high and steep the brake run is:

What a complete waste of energy. I know that there will be cost limitations and maybe some space limitations but there's clearly going to be more than enough energy left for a second half to this coaster.

It’s taller than the lift hill! ;)

I don't understand the fuss here, it looks lower than the Leviathan brake run and that is a pretty great ride.

I think from an enthusiast's point of view it is a waste of energy and it means a decent ending with airtime filled bunny hops is lost. From the park's persective then these coasters cost a fortune and it simply is not viable to build a longer layout and add another £5 million or so to the cost.

It's north of £20m of investment... That's just ride hardware too, nothing fancy alongside!
If I lived nearby then it would be super exciting. But for someone who doesn't live in the US there's no reason for me to go and ride this rather than Fury 325 or Leviathan. Even in Ohio we already have Millennium Force! If this was in Europe though I'd be super excited

I get that, but you have to admit it's a bit of a cop out. I mean, if I went to see the most amazing action film of all time, with explosions and everything... but then it just ended after act 2 with no plot resolution, I'd be rather pissed off.

If they really wanted to save money why not just build the lift a little shorter?

I know, it's less marketable if the drop's under 300ft (something a handy hill could fix) but the ride experience would be the same.

They've already got a Hyper coaster though, the main point of getting this is that it is a Giga coaster.

Anyway, here is a cool photo showing the bottom of the first drop:

In other news, Vortex has now closed forever.

Construction is racing along, Orion has now been topped off:

Wow, impressive and certainly puts west coast racers to shame. Can add this one to the near guaranteed for me to ride on Coastermania mega trip next year. Let's see if Jersey Devil or Pantheon can reach that status....
