TBC: SW9 Speculation

My personal (realistic) hope for SW9 would be a Gerst multilaunch to replace RITA.
Do we really want another fast-ageing Gerst that will be rough as heck in no time? Would be better to go for a glass-smooth Mack. Oh wait.. they've been beaten to it. :tearsofjoy:

Must say I have done Fury, the new launched Gerst infinity coaster at bobajealand and it's incredibly smooth (both Icon and Helix now have the Mac rattle on the front and it's so distracting) and the lap bar restraints are fantastic. Don't knock the newer Gerst stuff until you have tried it. If they put those lapbars on the smiler it would be an incredible ride and top 10 worthy.

The vote launch forward or backward is also dream gimmick material for Merlin

I'd love a Mack/RMC/B&M, etc... but Gerst is apparently cheaper and that's why I went with it as a "realistic" option.

Although I could see a Vekoma flying launch being a great replacement for RITA, especially if the one at Phantasia does well. I'm sure they could spin a worlds first in there like they did with Wickerman.

I can't imagine that Towers would get another flying coaster when they already have Galactica? I certainly would not say no to a new-gen Vekoma though!

The day Merlin build a Mack Mega or an Intamin blitz is the day pigs will fly.

If they don't consider Vekoma for whatever reason then they really are deluded. The quality of product they're delivering for the cost at the moment is extraordinary value.

Had a ride on a latest generation Vekoma launched ride Formula at Energylandia last weekend. Can confirm butter smooth, lots of airtime and better vest restraints than a B&M

I do agree with you Rob that it's in the very unlikely category, however that alone shouldn't be a reason not to add a coaster of a similar type. As we know not all sit down coasters are equal and if designed correctly a launched flying coaster would provide a different type of experience. Yes! Hopefully that Vekoma catalogue is being flicked through and the booster bikes page is being skipped ;)

Whatever SW9 is, I hope its comparable in length to the Smiler.

I know it's unlikely merlin would ever go for one but an RMC could do major airtime on a small footprint e.g. Untamed. Could even look at a launched lift hill like Lighting Rod to further cut down height
I think Merlin would probably want to wait for RMC to work out the kinks on the existing launch system at Dollywood before buying a launched RMC themselves, especially after the comparatively minor reliability issues with The Smiler ultimately led to a major accident that the park still hasn't quite recovered from...

Doubt that

It's a speculation thread, you should probably doubt a lot of things on here. Please settle my curiosity and expand your point as to why you doubt that?

Given that at least a survey would have been completed for the rumoured cross valley coaster and the trees behind Thirteen queue were tagged
(presumably) for removal. Its not a stretch to think that RITA could be replaced, especially as its not an SW.

That should leave plenty of room in the DF section of the park. Whether they would fill it probably comes down to money and planning permission I guess.

If they remove Rita, then they'll have plenty of room to make a long ride yes. I'm just going off the fact I hope they don't remove a ride to put a new one in. And sort from DF area, isn't rly much room for a long coaster

I'm sad to say it but a lot of the public would rather see a classic like nemesis go than Rita "Coz it like goes realy fast" *sigh*

Gotcha! Fair point :)

True, though there's still a lot of love for the old monster and very little else they could do with that quarry. So fingers crossed.

Isn't RITA a huge power drain? Could replace it with a "greener" kinetic powered coaster. I even have an IP, call it Greta (Greta's Re-Energised Thunberg Accelerator). I'll take a cheque please Merlin Marketing team.
