Yesterday, I seen several instances of people being unable to ride due to their size. This is bad for operations as they find this out when they are in the train and also it must be massively embarrassing to be told this Infront of a station full of people.

As a nation we are getting much bigger around the waist so would it not make sense to have a maximum waist size as well as a minimum height at all rides? Surely this would be much better for those involved that being a spectacle in a packed station?
 
The maximum chest size is posted on the entrance to most queues (along with the health warnings and such).

Plus there are test seats for some coasters too, though I would appreciate a few more of these around to help with the efficiency.

More test seats would help for sure.

I think the problem with the test seats is that they don't give a true idea of whether you will.be able to ride as they don't tell you if they will lock.

I suppose the issue is that nobody likes to tell people that they are to bid to ride.
 
A waist size is not a particularly good indication of whether someone would fit or not, depending on the restraint.

Agreed I fit in colossus fine but they don’t get the lock light.

It’s also a bit hit and miss on any theme park kmg afterburner.
Funfairs and Europe theme parks I’m ok so maybe the uk like that extra click to pass h&s

It's complicated though...
I've seen loads of lard blockages this year at Blackpool, particularly people who end up stealing my back seat on Icon.
Some look like they would have no problems getting on, but have to have the bigger seats, some because of waist (huge gut), some for big chest...mainly men I should add, but some don't look too overweight, just broad, but still get kicked out of the back seats as well.
Short and stocky seems to be the issue most frequently causing problems.
I'm six foot four and sixteen stone, but I've yet to do the walk of shame.
More big boy seats required overall, sign of the times with sedentary lifestyles in front of screens.
 
On a lot of stuff it's the thighs that are the problem. I'm fat but I can get on Olympia Looping and stuff fine, I struggle with Spinball some days (but all the time), and I really struggled with Silver Star because of my thunder thighs, (REIHE FÜNF!)

I have perfected my death glare when people pinch my back seat on Icon ... I agree I've also seen this a lot on Icon and plenty people not even fitting on the back row. It seems to be big tummies that cause most Icon issues, I have no issues on any seat with my *ahem* curvy hourglass figure :D

I've only really seen issues at Alton on Galactic-air and everyone's favourite unforgiving restraint on Spinball ;) wickerman seems to punish beer bellies too but less so on Th13teen

I'm 6'8'' and have had a couple of times where I've not been able to ride things at a few parks due to height - but usually before actually getting to the train itself. I don't know why all parks don't have someone stationed at the start of the queue to check those sort of things on busy days, so you don't waste time in a line for something you'll never be able to ride.

Most recently I was too tall for Raging Spirits at DisneySea Tokyo, but the cast member told us before we joined the queue (and sorted us out with fastpasses and park merch to make up for it). They also checked if I could fit on Space Mountain at Disneyland, which involved a good five or six minute walk through the backstage of the ride to sit in a test car - which was actually pretty awesome to see. I did *just about* fit in that, but it was hella tight.
 
Correct, I rode it most Sunday mornings for a couple of years...before a vigilant member of staff actually checked I was under the height limit!
 
It's funny, some parks/ride ops treat the maximum as a guide rather than a strictly enforced limit.

One of the reasons I've only really gotten into theme parks and roller coasters in the last couple of years is that I always thought I was too tall to ride most good rides in UK parks. But it seems like if you can fit, then you can ride in many places, despite the restrictions.

Having not been to AT yet (my first visit is in 10 days time!!), we emailed them to check because there's a couple of rides with maximum height limits.
AT customer service people said:
The upper height limit is in place as guests over this height often struggle with our lap bar restraints in terms of these securing properly. If we are unable to secure the restraints properly, we will unfortunately be unable to let you ride for health and safety reasons.

If you are able to be secured into the restraints and are comfortable, however, there should be no problem in letting you ride as long as our ride teams can ensure that we are protecting your health and safety. If you are at all unsure, we would highly advise speaking to a ride attendant on the day before queuing so that we can test the seats beforehand with you and avoid any disappointment.

Not too fussed by Rita, and if Spinball Whizzer is the same as Dragon's Fury at Chessington then I'm not too bothered about that either - but I would quite like to ride TH13TEEN. But I managed to fit on The Barnstormer at WDW so I figure I can probably just about squash into it somehow.
 
I lift weights and am of a powerlifter build. (I play alot of rugby and am about 15% body fat, so not fat but not ripped). I can just about ride Rita and Colossus but with vortex my quads are too big. I was fat and used to have to do the fat shame walk and I can tell you it's not nice. Never pick on fat people, you never know their circumstances... I had thiroid issues.
 
Galactica has a 48 inch chest restraint which doesn't sound believable at all. I'm small, my chest is about 32, but yet I still feel like my chest is being crushed in those restraints. So god knows how people 48 inches fit in there.

An adults, mens, XS is 34-36 inches chest.
There is no way that a 32 inch chest would feel particularly tight, and if it did that would purely be because of the seatbelts tightening.

A 48 inch chest is XXXL, so wildly on the other side of the spectrum.

It was most likely because they could push the retraint down more
 
@Ethan don't forget you're restraint will be locked in much closer to the seat back if you are on the smaller side ... Galactica is quite generous I find, but my friend can't get on it due to her body shape, it just won't lock her in :( chest:waist ratio will generally mean you will be pinned in safely and won't be flopping about too much on there no matter if you're XS or XL :cool:
