Efteling: General Discussion

It's clearly a new policy as it was bags on python when I went last month but back in 2017 and 2018 they had bins in the station for your bags.

Great weekend spent on my first trip to Eftaling. Thoroughly enjoyed the park and delicious pancakes! Ops were spot on with max wait of 30 mins on the front of baron.

Highlights for me were the incredible symbolica and fantasticly themed Baron 1898! Dutchman was also wonderful until it rememberd it was an aquacoaster with the fog room being possibly the best effect I have ever seen on a ride.

Why is that swans ride not just a walk through in the fairy tale forest?

It's in the fairytale forest, and there's a walkthrough to the side with a window to the scene, so I guess they had some cash to burn on a new ride too

Does anyone know whats going on with Raveleijn? Website just says closed until further notice.

Also anyone who has stayed what are the differences between Loonsche Land and Bosrijk?
Bosrijk is considerably more expensive than Loonsche Land, is it better?

I believe they're having problems with the animatronic dragon. It's been closed for around 2 months now.

I have only stopped one night in loonsche land and to me it felt more just like a regular budget hotel on the inside compared to bosrijk. I know it's meant to be more minimalist but it seem to lack the charm of bosrijk.

The rooms are also smaller and don't have a kitchen. Also the adults room is separate from the main area meaning if going with children they are in the main part unlike bosrijk where the kids room is separate meaning you can put them to bed and use the main room without disturbing them.

For our family we prefer bosrijk because it gives us more freedom at after the park closes to make our own meals and not reliant on eating out or on park though they do a nice pizza delivery service. It also feels like it has a little more charm to it.

End of the day it depends what you want and when you go, if you want somewhere to just sleep loonsche land would probably be fine. If you wanted to relax after the park has closed and save money cooking your food or like to have a fridge for milk and beer then bosrijk might be worth the little extra

Not stayed in either but Loonsche homes are smaller (about 25-30m2) two bedroom max homes, whereas Bosrijk homes are more themed on the outside and much larger starting at 75m2 going up to 6 bedrooms.

It's quite the coincidence that 2 dragons are down. At least Draconicon from Raveliejn will be repaired unlike Edna. Efteling have confirmed they will no longer be repairing the dragon on Joris and it that will no longer be a fire breathing dragon. Apparently "fans have to get used to it", although might be a mis-translation.

When we were there in May Joris was down for most of that week and luckily opened in the afternoon for us. It was slightly borked as the blue side won everytime, plus the trains we're in a bit of state.' I' ve also read recently that Dutchman has been running without its projection :( (you know the best bit of the rideo_O
)

I'm happy that Efteling are upgrading and installing new rides this year and I hope there's a longer term strategy to add something to compete/compliment Untamed at Walibi and Fenix at Toverland. However there should be the other eye on maintaining existing rides to the higher standards it's already set around the park.

Edit: Apologies if this a garbled mess, jet lag and Flu are not good bedfellows.

It's a shame that Efteling seems to be neglecting the park in places, it seemed like the sort-of place that would look after the scenic features from my few visits.

See, I made my 2nd visit to Efteling in August, and didn’t notice any major “rack and ruin” moments that made me think that Efteling was being neglected at all (except for the Joris dragon). In fact we were commenting at the end of the day on how pretty and pristine the park is!

I would say neglected is too strong of a word and I'll apologise if my post led @Coaster (and others) down that path.

Its just all the issues have come at once. I was wondering if they are juggling too much or it was a mere coincidence?

I was measuring against its own impeccable standards. Against most of the industry its well... A fairytale :)

This is what kills me, people get upset about the lack of the dragon on Joris or thirteen years of Disco Yeti at Animal Kingdom... I don't go out of my way to defend Merlin, but I really do think people don't realise, or perhaps don't acknowledge that things aren't all that different anywhere else.
