lastminute.com London Eye

For me Coca-Cola and British Airways didn't really sound tacky.

This though...

The pink might look better than the red. That always looked a bit sinister to me. I didn't know it was due to Coca-Cola sponsorship, I just assumed illuminati influence as I do with most things. Besides, it will always just be the London (all-seeing) Eye regardless of sponsorship.

This new sponsor is an improvement from the Coca Cola branding at least.

Nothing says you are in the capital of the UK more than one of Londons biggest landmarks, sponsored by one of Americas biggest corporations.

There's not a great deal of work necessary to rig the fireworks on the eye itself - working from mid afternoon gives them plenty of time.
Wow, really. Assumed it would take much longer. It looked as if they were working overnight on 28th and 29th, but not sure what they were doing.

That'll be the work to rig the cabling and the pyro holders onto the eye, that's done beforehand ready to load the fireworks onto the Eye on the 31st.

Yeah, oddly enough, they don't want to have a large quantity of explosive devices strapped to a major London tourist attraction until the last possible minute. Can't think why.

All the aerial shells are launched from barges that are loaded far down stream and towed in to place as late as they can.

Also, fun fact for you: Notice that everything in the air is VERY low altitude. That's nothing to do with safety or possible aircraft... The whole display is designed to fill a 16:9 aspect ratio, framed on the wheel, for TV.

Do forgive me for dragging this thread up from the dead, I am someone who doesn’t pay too much attention to what is going on with Merlin’s midway attractions, but ahead of an upcoming trip to London I had a look around at a few ideas for things to do, one of them being the Eye.

Safe to say I nearly fell off my chair upon realising the cost of this 30 min experience is now £40pp. FORTY. POUNDS.PER.PERSON!

Not today Merlin, you greedy wizard you, not today.

I dont agree with it but it’s the same principle as the theme parks

London is full have discount tickets for all Merlin midway attractions. They will want people to pay about £20 and 50% off or BOGOF will achieve that. If the odd clueless tourist gives the odd full price fee then all the better.

£40 was the prebook online price, equivalent price for the day at Towers was £39.

Not sure if BOGOF tickets for the Eye are based on that online price, or a ‘fictitious’ gate/walk up price like at the theme parks.

It's not so much BOGOF at London Eye as it's mainly tourists coming from outside the country, so they're unlikely to be buying a box of Kellog's or bottle of Carex (and they only cover SEALIFE and the parks generally anywa).

It's the multi attraction tickets they want to flog. You can add another attraction for a tenner more, two more for £20 or £90 total for all attractions with the hop on/off bus thrown in too. Suddenly you've got people locked into Merlin attractions (or a bus company they have a stake in) for the duration of the day. Lot's of opportunity for additional sales of merch/food and drink!

Was going to say the way Merlin price the midways is to make doing just one seem horrendously bad value so you then pay more money to do Tussauds, and Sea Life so you feel like you've got value for money.

I did the multi attraction ticket in London last year (the eye and Sea Life) to feel like I was getting more value for money. Didn’t bother with any of the usual Merlin upselling (photo points etc) and Fastrack for the eye I would say avoid. The queue was huge when we went last year but it moves very quickly anyway.

No 4D experience anymore. The cost of the eye itself does seem expensive for what it is, but that’s a central London tourist attraction for you!
