London Entertainment Resort: All Discussion

Talking about Disney rip off, am I the only one looking at the dome entrance in this image and thinking Thorpe Park?

I have no doubt that Mr PY would like to get it open, but unless they get some sort of major investment it is not going to happen! I see these concepts as a push for investment, something to try and get potential investors excited. The cost of developing these concepts will be small in the grand scheme of things.
Remember, guys; PY Gerbeau has a track record in turning large projects around! He's previously turned around the Millennium Dome and Disneyland Paris when they were failing!

But by those points they were already tangibly something to turn around. They were buildings, attractions and infrastructure which need a new direction.

This isn't something beyond some pretty pictures. There's nothing to turn around until there is money, and there is no money.

You are not the only one

In the unlikely event this ever happened, I'd rather they had the ambition to make a park of Disney quality, clone or not.
Do any of our parks offer a mix of shows, characters, rides and restaurants in a similar ambition currently?
At a push Legoland, but its hardly West End quality productions and experience dining.

The problems behind this project are not in the creative department, and neither is the idea that any large scale theme park is nicking off Disney. Having a big castle in the park (which isn't even the center stage, doesn't share the same architectural style/appearance and isn't the brand image ) is nicking off Disney? It's a medieval looking castle built in to a mountain. Disney is far grander and Romanesque; it looks nothing like it. And glass dome roofs are the standard roof for indoor entertainment buildings/shopping centers anyway.
I know the project is unrealistic but I think some people are attacking the wrong areas of the project.

Some of the big creative figures behind concept and master planning are extraordinarily talented with decades of experience in the industry. They understand feasibility and budget vs idealism more than most, and their concepts are often scaled down with budget in mind, and most importantly; they are not responsible for the budget, least of all when the unrealistic estimates are constantly changing all the time. They have done an excellent job, accounting for building size, traffic feasibility, land use, where the park entrance should be, varying inflows of guests throughout the year, all while delivering on general concept design which has fantasy, retro and futuristic themes DISREGARDING IPs or going in to further depth on design. I get that Disney were pioneering in the industry which makes it very hard not to use elements like a main street or use fantasy, but these things alone are not 'ripping off' as they are incredibly broad ideas. Unless the final product is generic or borrows off Disney in more areas, I don't see how it's a rip off.

The issue here is incredibly unrealistic financing prospects

I think everyone has been hired at some point to do design work on this project, a lot of very experienced people true, but it's been strangely passed around from person to person with none of them seemingly having much creative control. The park developers just seem to want to gleam any info they can about the British market and planning restrictions in order to plant their generic corporate park in the UK.

I also get tired when good rides are just dismissed as "Disney rip offs", there's a difference between influence and copying yes. But it's very obvious that on this project the developers' only intention is to replicate a Disneyland/Universal Studios appeal without much else original. Even down to the deliberate "Disneyland London" PR hook.

I'd much rather have a more homegrown park develop in this country with a great theme and great appeal, to rival Merlin.

As much as I enjoy moaning about Merlin their parks feel British and not too sterile or corporate but particularly the large Investments in Dubai particularly feel almost clinical and lack any personality. I think there is a good chance this could end up feeling like motiongate

It won't even be built. They haven't raised any money yet I don't think.

Just to clarify, I wasn’t slating the fact that the park seems to take inspiration from Disney - my favourite theme park on earth has a geodesic sphere, a Matterhorn roller coaster and even a river cruise!

My issue is what the concept art suggests: that it was pulled together quickly as a means of maintaining public interest. The fact the park seems to boast no interesting themes, land names or architecture fills me with no confidence the park will ever be built. It’s like someone thought ‘quick, let’s create some more art so people see the park has backing and will invest!’

I’m not attacking the creativity, but believe it masks greater financial issues.

You know, I think 2020 could well be the year of resolving things; Brexit is finally getting (sort of) resolved this year, so maybe this could get resolved too?

Brexit is:

1) in no way what’s stopping this project

2) not getting resolved this year
To be fair, PY Gerbeau did say that the chances of the project getting built increase if we leave the EU with a deal.

Whilst I won’t comment on the viability of the project, I would love to see this thing get built, if only for the fact that it would mean every UK being wrong.
