General Hotel Discussion

I only stay for one special weekend a year now as the quality certainly has gone down over the years. As many have said the breakfast is pretty abysmal but the last time we tried flambos the food was excellent to be fair. It’s very hit and miss across the whole resort.

If it’s a special treat then go for it and you will enjoy it, Just don’t expect luxury as the hotels are not what they were.
Aside from the previously mentioned weekend I always check the prices for my visits against premier inn uttox and if there’s £50 or so in it I’d go for towers, if not you’ll get a better nights sleep and breakfast at premier inn. You can actually get some decent prices at towers if you book early and keep trying I have found

Forwarding these onto the forums. Despite the fact we already expected to see this, it's nice to see the process in action! Work on the arcade is good too, I really thought they would neglect the arcade, so it's a nice surprise for me.

I’ve just had a quick look at some prices for 4th July and the star gazing sheds are coming out at £153 for 1 adult and 1 child on the merlin holiday club site that’s supposed to have MAP discount. I know it’s a Saturday night but £153 for that, Jesus!

Or enjoy a spacious family room in the Premier Inn from £47. (July 4th, Stafford premier Inn so 20miles away, but save £100 quid so....)

Uttoxter premier Inn is only £162 for 2 nights, so for only £9 extra have a whole extra night. (July 3rd and 4th night's).

I really don't understand how any of these sheds sell.

Stargazing pods are still not eligible for Merlin Holiday Club discount, so that’s the full price cost.

Interestingly the hotels have now been added to the opening times page so you can see when they are open/closed during the year.

https://www.altontowers.com/plan-your-visit/before-you-visit/opening-times/

The Enchanted Village for example is closed all of March, some of April, most of May, all of September and some of Oct.

Perhaps this accommodation strategy isn’t working too well after all.
It would seem that the only hotels open year-round (well, apart from the January refurbishment period) are Alton Towers Hotel and CBeebies Land Hotel. Interesting... maybe these are the ones with the highest occupancy?

I suppose the EV and the Stargazing Pods make sense, because I can't imagine outdoor accommodation of that style being too pleasant in winter!

Well they were open for Fireworks last year and I suspect they'll be opened if the demand is there. It'll be an upfront cost cutting measure that'll be overturned if cash comes in.

Interesting to see the actual opening dates on a page like that for all the hotels. But to be fair it looks about the same as the past few years. CBeebies and ATH are always open and splash and Enchanted Village always seem to swap about. Eg last year for opening splash was closed by EV was open, it’s the opposite this opening weekend.

However it’s good to see splash open a lot more than a few years back, when it spent most of the season closed.

Also I notice on there that golf seems to be open till 9pm quite a lot, even in like March and April.

You have to wonder why they needed the Pig Farm huts if they can’t open the rest of the resort throughout the season.

I suspect the later season openings will alter based on booking demand throughout the year but this is still a bit pathetic.

Because they are an easy way to make extra money on the busy summer days when they do get close to full occupancy.

I guess they are aiming to have enough rooms for peak capacity rather than average capacity. As long as they make enough income from the high occupancy days to offset the days when most rooms stand empty, it still makes business sense.

I don't think there was ever any intention to open the huts all season.

I have to say, I am genuinely delighted that Splash Landings opening is now almost back to full time within the main season. There are no weekend closures as there have been in recent years.

A major boost.

I’ve said it elsewhere, but quite simply, they only had to fill the sheds for a couple of nights before they’ve paid off the capex for them. And let’s face it, given the amount of maintenance undertaken, the running costs will be very minimal.

Looking fresh! It's been a very long time since I've seen the arcade, It looks like that ticket redemption area takes up a lot of space (Look at that space between the front and the penny pusher, unless the camera makes it look a lot more cramped than it is). Correct me if I wrong but I believe they got rid of the tickets for a certain period, right? If that's the case then I'm more than happy with this change.
