The build your own map is a nice touch too even if a little simple. It reminds me of the early 2000s websites that had a lot of interactivity built in. At least I think they did... am I wearing rose tinted glasses?

Almost all early 2000s websites used a lot of Flash-based animation and "interactivity". The iPhone killed that style of website off as Apple said Flash took too much effort to run and also that style of website was not mobile friendly. Due to the rise of smartphones most websites now are about getting the information quickly rather than features that make it "fun".

Did I miss a memo here? When did ERT go back to being exclusively MAP and hotel guests?

I assumed it was still for anybody who had pre-booked.

I just saw on Facebook that Oktoberfest is not the only special event for this year; the park have suggested some sort of CBeebies event in May bank holiday and some sort of Gangsta Granny event in May half term, as well as hinting towards more events in the summer. I wonder what those could be?

I think that this season could be really exciting for Alton Towers, and it is definitely exciting to see the park dabbling in more events again! In a way, this series of events almost reminds me of what the park did in 2010 for the park's 30th anniversary, and that was apparently a pretty great season, so I'm excited!

EDIT: Here's the Facebook post in question:

It changed a couple of years back when they reduced it from one hour to 30 mins.

And is anyone surprised? No cus it's same old merlin

Seems ok to me.

The one thing I wish they would do is be more flexible and add to the line up during busy times. So if they know the hotels are fully booked during the summer for example, add a couple more rides to ERT during August to help spread the crowds.

They did an event last may for Cbeebies land 5th Birthday, must have been successful if they are doing something again this year.

Not sure how this is negative, it's a good line-up.

I'm sorry but the smiler HAS to be in that line up over oblivion for me. Oblivion barely gets a queue anyway so it won't save you any time. Wicker man however I think it's fantastic that it's included as it's one of the most popular rides on the park, meaning your queue is a lot shorter.

Exactly, they include the newest most popular ride along with another thrill ride and a bunch of kids rides, its a really good ERT lineup, there are enough reasons to moan at Merlin so credit where credit is due.Sure it would be nice to see The Smiler on there but NO parks that I am aware of include all their most popular rides on ERT.

It wouldn’t make sense to have two of the most popular rides on ERT when taking into account the possibility of losing fast track sales.

I’m not saying that’s the reason why but being how profit orientated they are it must be a slight factor.

Exactly my thinking, losing ERT Smiler means it’ll be busier so more likely to drive Fastrack. Wickerman would be busy anyway so probably makes no difference.

But the page does says rides may change etc.

That's true. I use the SRQ anyway so I don't know what I'm moaning about. Well that's off course if it's still on the ride as I haven't heard anything about single rider at all

I'd be surprised if Towers season pass holders didn't get in for ERT. Can't see them actually following through with that.

You have to bear in mind that a ride like Oblivion needs less staff and has fewer pre-starts required than a ride like Smiler. It makes perfect sense to open rides in this way. This is the reason why Nemmy was on ERT for so long but obviously Nemmy has the drawback of being too far away for guests when Skyride doesn’t open for hours. I am impressed they are still opening Wicker Man early. That ride takes a lot to open and they have obviously put guests first in that respect, it would be a lot easier for them to open other rides instead.
